[IMG] Thought I'd better upgrade to 1.21. Bad idea! 2 hrs later the CD is still whirring without being recognised. It seems some 'genius' at Infogames decided to update the Securom copy protection on 1.21 so it won't recognise your CD Key if you are running it from (many) CDRW drives/burners - including mine. So despite having a legit copy and CD Key, I'm stuffed.
Options: Use a straight CD Drive, Use a CD Crack, go back to 1.20.
    Grrrrrr. :(

I've heard that there are lots of problems with the 1.21 patch. Luckily for me, the update crapped out on me while 'updating' and it failed to download the patch.

Is there someway you can remove the 1.21 patch?

[IMG] re install the game that will remove that nasty patch for you :)
(you still keep your chars and saved games doing this :)
there is probally another way but that is one way to do it.
i tried the patch 1.2 which was supose to help with the toolset.... ya so instead of it occassionally poping up an error which i could deal with by closing the program the new patch causes the whole fkn computer to crash (via the blue screen of death!) so ofcourse i went back to ver 1.10

Lucky for me, the patch works just fine on my system.

Your options if it doesn't work are basically to uninstall, then manually download and install the 1.20 patch.

"so it won't recognise your CD Key if you are running it from (many) CDRW drives/burners"

Are you playing from the single backup copy that you are allowed to make under US law?

The cdrw will read the Atip information from the cdr. Which automatically rules out it being an original mastered disk, and shuts down.

Clonecd has a resident program that will override the atip information and let you play from a cdr. All it does is block the atip information.

I finally broke down waiting for IwD2 (*sigh*), and picked up Nwn. I've only had the chance to load it, but the 3d view doesn't look near as bad as I was expecting. And I think I might be able to live with the storyline (it mentions the spine of the world), so I'm going to give Nwn a whirl.

Eviiiiilllll patch. You should have stayed well away from it. I'm going to go for as long as I can without dowloading a new patch until I'm sure every one of the problems caused by 1.21 are fixed. Course knowing me this will screw me in the end when I run into something 1.21 was supposed to fix, but oh well.

Hmmm, so we all download a patch that's supposed to fix bugs, and we all come out with more headaches than before. Gee, thanks Bioware. And to think I was praising your auto update system :p

Well, at least the major portion of the problems aren't their fault, technically. That's caused by a bug in the SecuRom coding. There is a bioware induced problem in 1.21, which is the skill item bug, but they have posted a fix for that. Its just unofficial because they can't make an 'official' patch until SecuRom gets their code fixed.

I still play the original version... I upgrade as soon as there is a descent patch available :)

Ah and Erran, I have another option for you:

Upgrade to 1.22 unsupported beta :)

What would be a decent, non crashing patch

I was never able to install the 1.21 as it failed to uncompress, however, the full version of 1.22 is out now, and it supposedly fixes many of the problems you've been having. Run your auto update program.

As for a recommended patch, I'd say 1.20 is the most stable of all of them, at least on my system.
