Just reloaded SoA after almost 2 years on the shelf and have to admit, it's better than ever. I loaded the 2.023 patch but I seem to have a bug at the unseeing eye. Seems I can't get down below. If memory serves me correct that after talking to and getting the quest to find 1/2 of the staff, you go back to the circular walkway around the pit and enter through a pit hole on the left of the walkway near a dude named Tad. Anyway, I can't find a way down there no how and am asking for some help.

    Thanks.

You can only go down there after you have recovered the other half of the staff. If you already have the first half try speaking to the renegade priest near the lich tomb who should tell you to speak to Tad.

Yeah, you need to talk to him, because he's the one who tells you that the secret staircase is there in the first place.

I talked to the renegede preist and he wants me to go get the other half but didn't give up his half. I tried various dialogs but they all resulted the same.

The renegade priest doesn't have the first half. If you continue south of the renegade priest (i.e. continue going south past the lich tomb) you should find a set of stairs going down - take them and follow the path and you will find the first half of the device.

    Welcome to the boards!

Don't forget to take the depleated rod back to the forgotten temple! It's been a very long time, but when I first did that quest, I thought I'd try and sell it...I don't know what happened, but my PC suddenly died soon after and I had to reload.

Also, I recomend to have a cleric in your party with the highest healing spell that they can memorize for your first encounter inside the forgotten temple...and bringing the Daystar sword along helps a bit too with all the undead. :rolling:

Why do you need a high healing spell? A simple cure light wounds should surfice.

If you are lawful neutral you can get the rod to the surface and kill just about anything that moves :) Dragons... Jon... No trouble! Sorry I'm a cheese lover!

Glad to see I'm not the only one who is still engaged in this game. Now that I've moved on, I've found the Gauths and Beholders to be far more formidable than I remember! My party which has my Wizard, Elwin, Jahaira, Minsc, Korgan, and the first thief you meet in the dungeon, can't handle these guys. I'm having mild success with a couple spells (protection from magical energy) but they come in groups of 4's and mow my party down. I remember these badies being tough, but not this tough. My party is about 12 and any hints will be appreciated.

    Thanks

Try to sleep. A Beholder or two should float over to your place and it will be easier to take them down when not in a group.
If you had more Clerics you could heal your party during fights. Try Sheild and mirror images.

I would send one NPC in as buffed up as possible with various magic and anti beholder protections and keep the rest of the party well back. If you have the shield of baluran it would make the fight a lot easier.
Also try and lure the beholders out one at a time.

thanks but I don't use mods (the shield comes from a mod pack does it not?).

The other hints were excellent and I appreciate. I also found that a 2 level spell called "glitterdust" is awesome against these guys. They blind for a few rounds and that's just enough for a hasted party to whup on those baddies.

No, it comes with the bonus/collector's edition merchants, which are part of the game anyway, just hidden unless you put a couple of files in the override folder, so that the merchants selling them appear. You can download this from http://www.sorcerers.net/Games/BG2/index_editors4.php

Hmm, right, I've encountered a problem. Basically, got to that room with the second half of the staff and made them one. Then before Unseeing comes along, i Quick save just before and go off to battle him. I kill him but he also kills me for some reason. So reloading, I make sure to be near the back of the party (i'm a wizard) and well Unseeing Eye just isn't there ... I've tried resting, searching his lair, killing everything else, going out and going back in and reloading etc. and still there is no site of the bugger.

Any ideas as to what to do?

Get the fixpack from SP, it fixes Unseeing Eye not appearing IIRC.
