This quest was one of my favorites, I played it once with the 'Shield of Balduraan' and one with out (from a save game just before the quest).

(just summing up the quest below)

If you fight the Beholders & their smaller cousins without the 'Shield of Balduraan' then you will have to have some spell casters & a 'doped' up Fighter in front who can take alot of damage. -also he'll need protective spells'.

If you use the Shield of Balduraan you can send the fighter in alone. Against all of the Beholders everywhere.

At the Temple where the 'one half' of the 'Rod' exists, pay attention to what the diseased ones have to say about things. BIG hint *help instead of hurt*/*heal instead of harm*.

Then back at the 'PIT' complex you will find a host of Beholders & cousins so use whichever method to fight these as indicated in the above options -if you so choose that is.

hes talking about the creature in the temple you should use only one blast of the combined rod to destroy the beholder make sure it is the actual main boss that you use the rod on,he should appear and track you down when you grab the second rod piece and dont do like i did had the first rod piece on my main character and then speeded and stealthed yoshimo to get the second piece cos the boss appears as soon as the second piece is touched ok.and you want the same character to have both pieces one blast and hes dead quite easy really

*also fire elemetals work well on the gauths*
