Finished up my current game last weekend, so I've been setting up some different classes/characters for a new game. Anyway I was creating a mercenary type to sit around the tavern for hire and I was looking for a "family heirloom" type weapon to equip him with. Used shadowkeeper to scroll the item list (it has lots of unused items--some from BG1, IWD, etc.)

Long story short: I found a long sword named "Varscona" that I haven't yet found in the game and it looked good--had a history description and everything. (There was actually a couple listings with that name, but only this one had a fancy looking icon.)

Loaded the game and went to test things: WOW!
Every hit was doing 1000+ damage and death at a single blow! When I checked the record stats a little closer, I found the sword gave a -36 THACO; armor class -12 or -15 (not sure if actual class or bonus from present); and 8 attacks per round. Also noted 100% magic resistance! It didn't just kill--it chunked & gibbed, big time!

This must be the weapon the developers give to those invincible characters you encounter every now and then.

Where is the invincible guy that all of you are mentioning? I couldn't find him maybe I am playing the game by law and order.

 

A real killer huh. Can you actually find it in the game?

 

I can't find the sword in SK. What filters did you use?

 

It's the very weapon that Arkanis Gath uses, who is a Shadow Thief and the one who watches the back of Aran Linvail.

If you side with the Shadow Thieves and try to attack anyone within the guild after doing so, he will appear with this weapon in his hand and own you.

He has about 9 attacks per round, can split these attacks between more than one character in your party and pretty much kill everyone, if they are close enough, in one round.

I tried over and over to kill him but I got tired of loading it up. This was actually discussed about 2 weeks ago, pretty long thread on him and the weapon.

You're right, Syl; I vaguely remembered the subject of invincible game characters for story control, but I didn't recall that the weapon had been identified. My bad for duplicate posting, I guess.

I didn't use filters since I was browsing. But it is listed as "Long Sword +2" with an item code of "killsw01". The others with the same name/description do not have the 'extra' abilities!
