Typing Speed

Discussion in 'Whatnots' started by A_Seal_Clubber, Jul 8, 2002.

  1. Greetings.

If you are interested in knowing your typing speed, go to this site: http://typera.solutions.fi/index.cgi

Scroll down to the fifth bullet, click on "set your group" and type "SP" (with capitals) as the group name and "sp" (without capitals) as group password.

Now your speed will be ranked against other SP members.

    Have fun!

Fun idea but alas it didn't work for me. I was really curious about my mpw.

  3. Yes...it seems they are having technical problems. But, I'll update this when these problems are fixed.

Don't feel bad, idoru. I only got 165. Of course, I always bomb typing tests as I cannot type without looking at my fingers, it's a hand/eye cooridination problem. When I'm freetyping, I go much faster. That's why I do so well where I work. I type what I hear, not what I see, and can go much faster that way.

205!? Ah, it's *correct* keypresses per minute... (That's what I get from not knowing how to spell, I suppose...)
I mainly use my fists when dealing with computers anyway... ;)

Have you guys been taking typing lessons or something? Are you taught it at school in some countries?

  9. Yes...Keyboarding I was a requirement at my junior high school.

[IMG] Well, your 559 is pretty damn good I think! :alien:

  11. Hm... So the stupid typing program my dad made me do when I was 8 was for almost nothing?! 231... Mediocore. It's beyond me how anyone can type 430 per minute.

If you think over 430 is incredible, what about that 830 record then?

Yey! 217 after two more tries! I feel good. :D

  15. In the beginning, the key is accuracy.

Know where all the letters are on your keyboard without looking at your hands. Type them over and over. The very fastest typers have an accuracy of 100% or close to it (even when typing fast). Knowing how to spell every word you read without examining it is a necessity. (Sometimes, words are intentionally misspelled on it, and sometimes there are foreign words. Just be observant).

After practicing accuracy, then you can work on speed. Try typing at different times of the day and in different positions. I know that most people say to type with your wrists off the table, but I always have my left wrist on the table and my right wrist off it. Also, don't type when your hands are cold.

When I type my fastest (which is around 550-570), I find that I never have to think about where my fingers are going. Many common words and letter combinations are now part of my muscle memory (such as "-ous", "-ing", "-ion", "the", "that" and so on).

257 on the first try, 301 on the second. Eh.

Not that great, but not bad.

[IMG] I tried to hammer down keys for fun for one minute. My hands almost cramped up with lacticacid. I stroke 1600 keys per minute. Incoherrent letters with no structure. How on earth can someone make 830 keys that actually make sense and are structured? More than ten letters per second. That is almost too hard for the brain to imagine; even more to type it.

Type "Experiment" (with the capital letter) in LESS than a second and keep this mind torture going for two minutes... He is good, no doubt a jedi couldn't keep up.
