OK, it's been years since I've played this game, but I never would have imagined my memory could be this rusty.

I started a game in BG1 about a week ago with a bard. I got him to the XP cap in BG1 of 161K. I remember seeing in a thread not too long ago, stating that even though the XP cap in BG1 was 161K, that you continued to accumulate experience after that - it just didn't display on screen. So when you started a new game in BG2 you could have a character that exceeded 161K. I was surprised to hear that happened, as I never recalled it occurring in my games. So when I imported my character into BG2 last night and saw 161K, I wasn't the least bit surprised. Just to clear this up for me, in the unmodded game, is it possible to start BG2 with over 161K XP?

The second question I have I found even more confusing. The bard I imported to BG2 was level 10 and had 72 hitpoints when BG1 ended. I imported the character into BG2 and I had 61 hitpoints. I was almost certain that things like hitpoints carried over, but it's almost like the computer "rerolled" my hitpoint levels. I know I can change this using shadow keeper (which I don't think I ever deleted from my computer), but am I correct in thinking that whatever quantity of hitpoints I had at the end of BG1, that's how many my character should start with in BG2?

    Hello Aldeth,

I believe it was a thread I started recently that mentioned more than 161k xp carrying over into BG2. Apparently, that only works if you imported a character into BG2 from a BGTutu/EasyTutu game.

With the hitpoints issue: Again, if you imported a character into BG2 from a Tutu game, your hitpoints are preserved: at least mine was, though it may be because I installed BG2 Tweaks and chose the option for maximum hit point rolls at level up.

The few times I've carried a pc over from BG1 the hit points did not change (except the bonus hit points from equipment such as the helm of Balduran).

OK then, it appears that SK is the way to go. I'll give myself the 11 hitpoints that I got stiffed on.

BG and BG2 have different methods of calculating HP gained per level (with BG it's randomised) so if you import to BG2 unmodded, then it'll calculate your appropriate hitpoints in accordance with BG2 reckoning. Hope that makes sense!

Unfortunately, it does not make sense. In normal difficulty with BG2 (which is the difficulty I have set it) BG2 reckoning should give me maximum hitpoints, meaning I should have received more, not less. I used Shadow Keeper to get my hitpoints back to level they were at the end of BG1. While I was there, I also changed the avatar to that of a thief (I like the hooded look).

See that's a lil weird because MOST of the time, BG2 changed the hp of my characters when I imported them from BG which was just frustrating, considerin it took me THAT long reloading time after time to get the max..

Although sometimes (RARELY) the game kept the orginal hp at the same amount

This only happened about 3 times I think, with a pure class wizard, HE F/T and a pure thief.

My guess is it's just a random thing??
