First off, what is the total hp Imoen, as a level 7 theif/level 8 mage, could have rolled before Con modifiers? I'm always confused as to how hit dice work with dual classes and can't seem to find information that will tell me (probably because I'm bad at finding things). I like to have Imoen and my character have max hp to represent their particular heritage.

Secondly is there any rationale behind the bonus 10 hp characters get on the start up of BG II? Does it come from something in BG (I've only resently acquired BG so I'm not terribly familiar with the benefits that come out of the game) or is it just some goodie added in at the start up of SoA for no apparent reason? I'm thinking about SKing it out unless the game has a RP reason for it being in there.

    Thanks for any help.

The key is you do not gain hit points for level you already have in another profession. In Imoen's case, she can only gain hitpoints when her levels of mage exceed her levels of thief -- which occurs at level 8.

7d6 +1d4 = max of 46 hp (7 levels thief + levels of mage above thief).
2 points per hit dice = 16 hp (14 for levels of thief and 2 for levels of mage above thief).

This gives a max of 62 hp.

I believe the bonus hit points were a bug that no one has really cared to fix.

It's not always +10 HP, my imported fighter only gained +1.
In BG2 you always get the maximum HP at level up at normal difficulty, while in BG1 it's random. So an average level 7 BG1 fighter should have 27 HP less than a freshly created BG2 one. Maybe the extra HP were meant to compensate this.
