Ok, so I just aquired a fairly new 19" monitor for free. There are a few things I want to do with it. I have it hooked up to my laptop's secondary monitor output, and I was able to get my Nvidia go 5200 to clone it, so that I see an exact copy of everything that I'm doing. Now what I want to do is:
    • Configure the 19" monitor to disply only certain applications...such as the program that I use to watch TV and DVDs, play BG2, and edit pictures with MS Picture It and Adobe Photoshop; while I use my laptop's screen to surf the web, display my Mp3 player status, and just about everything else.
    • I also want to be able to have different resolution sizees, refresh rates, and other screen adjustments indepent to each screen.
So, is there a program out there that will let me, say...set a program to display only on one monitor, while letting my use the other screen display a totally different program and easly switch my mouse cursor over to the other screen at will?

And lastly, before I got the monitor, it was used to disply a screen of a program that the company used every day, 24 hours a day. So the image of that never changing screen has left a ghost image of that screen, wich you can clearly see when the monitor is off.
Any idea of how to get rid of the ghost image? :rolling:

Oooh, I have a spare monitor around here somewhere too... Being able to set up such that I can use one PC for two different things at the same time would be damn useful! (think MSN, music, surfing - gaming ON THE SAME SYSTEM! Yay!)

This is what my father always warned me for since I got my first comp, when you don't use it, shut down the monitor!!
You can't remove it, it's burned in.

    Edit:
Lol, Copy-Pastes are eviiiiil I tell you! Fixed it.

Uhhh...I think that link belongs in the "meta-network" thread...

Any other thoughts on how to use the two screens the way I want? :rolling:

As far as I know the only cost effective way to get rid of a burnt in image on a monitor is to toss the damned thing out and get a new one.

As far as dual screening goes, I have never looked into it myself but my brother is currently running two 17" monitors side by side. I will ask him to take a quick look at your post and see if he has any recommendations.

Edit: As it turns out my brother doesn't do anything fancy with his set-up - he just ticked off the "Extend my windows desktop onto this monitor" box in the settings tab in the display menu.

This will allow you to have different programs displayed on the two monitors with the ability to scroll off the right side of monitor one onto the left side of monitor two.

He warns that it may not work so well with some games - he mostly uses it for his computer science classwork.

Thanks JSBB, but that doesn't work for any of my current games...and I have a split view of TV now. So I guess I'll need some actual software for it to work the way I want.

So my delema is still on the table. :rolling:
