Longing for a good Thief type after losing yoshimo? here's a nice tactic for instant killing all major foes in the game.

Start with a simple human fighter, with at least INT 15 and DEX17, proficient in Katana, Long Sword and two weapon style of fighting. just to dual it from the very beginning to Bounty Hunter. Concentrate your skills at first in setting traps, open locks, find traps and remove traps. Those will come in handy soon, since Irenicus' Room is trapped a lot. By the time you reach Waukeen's Promenade your Rogue level will be just about 8th, enough to use your fighter skills along with thieving abilities, without the annoyance of multiclassing. Besides, you can allocate five slots to your chosen weapons, allowing your character to become the hell of a fighter at high levels. Traps can kill ANYONE in the game, even with a single blow. This becomes particulary true in Throne of Bhaal, all you have to do is to choose six of the most powerful traps, which is the maximum number permitted by the game in a single area. Here's a short list of the creatures I've managed to slay without even unsheathing my twin katanas ;)

-All the dragons in the game, incluiding Firkraag and Abazigal
    - The Blind Eye Beholder.
-The Imprisoned One-With ONLY six traps-
-The fallen Solar from Throne of Bhaal
-Amelyssan: I used all my 20 traps available in that plane in three rows, each killing a major creature, no casualties in my group.

    enjoy!

First, how did you dual to a kit? My understanding was that you could only dual to a pure class. [Edited out]

    Welcome to the boards.

I did dual a kit by not choosing one at all at my first chosen class, a Fighter. Then you have to have at least a 17 in the prime requisite of the race or kit you want to dual to, and at least a 15 in the second, in this case, intelligence. This hasn´t worked everytime, but my ToB doesn´t work properly, anyway. Some objects disappear from the inventory, some appear twice, when I use my map in any dungeon the game hangs out. I did not use any hack or script, well, only once, because I had one bug that consisted in when I got out of the Underdark ALL of my equipment turned to dust, drow-made or not, both in my auto and quicksave slots, so I had to bring it back to my party, using the ShadowKeeper. I also realized that all my bug problems were fixed when I installed ToB and the latest official patch from bioware, but only if I installed it after finishing Bg2. So, maybe is a lucky malfunction. Anyway, you can dual a fighter to a single Thief, and when you reach level 20, choose the six powerful traps in your way to level 26, it works the same, but then you only can use it on what foes are left in your way, and certainly not on most of BG2 dragons. Anyway, you can use a Bounty Hunter and the Gauntlets of Specialization. He's not a True Fighter, but fights far better than usual. Dualling it gives you an AWESOME character, but a simple Bounty Hunter could serve as well.

IMHO you can dual TO a kit.
    - just get BG1 game, and DUAL in it
    - when importing the game, BG2 will take your active profession and let you to choose a specialisation for it.

It is some time that I have tested this, but it should work.

    Back to topic:

Traps are TOO powerful. I am not too fond of using the bounty hunter ones (it does not help to maze a dragon, you have to kill it later anyway).

But if you hate Cowled Wizards as much as I do - just do not pay them for the license, and from time to time prepare the traps and cast some spell. Then collect the gold / items from the bodies and move on. There should be some heavy fight with archmages after some time. Well, they died just after they finished talking :D
