Total noob question about crafting/ upgrading

    Hey all, I just had a few quick questions on crafting. I recently purchased the complete NWN set (original game, SoTU, and HoTU), installed them all, and started a single player campaign. I was wondering... are there any good guides on crafting weapons and armor online? You know, what materials you need, what to combine, what level DCs needed etc etc. I've googled it up, and found nothing. I'm also having a hard time finding raw material... from what I gather, smashing chests and doors should give me wood, but I'm nearly done with Chapter 2 and I have yet to find anything other than leather hides and the odd lump of adamantite.

    My second question is: what's the deal with this "smith upgrading" I keep hearing about? Giving smiths special materials and getting them to upgrade my weapons and armor? I'm guessing this feature was new to either SoTU or HoTU, so will I have to wait until I get to the expansions before taking advantage of it? Or are there special smiths in the original NWN campaign that I can take my equipment to?

    There are a couple of smiths in the OC that will upgrade weapons. It's been so long that I don't remember which chapters though.

    I never did crafting, but IIRC, you need crafting skills in order to get raw material. So smashing a chest will give you some wood only if you have your "craft weapon" skill greater than 5, I think. Anyhow, you can only make unenchanted weapons or armor, so it's kind of pointless.

    Adamantite, fairy dust, iron wood, etc. : you can take these (and a magic weapon or armor) to the smith in Beoruna's Well in chapter 3, and he'll make you some special items. The smith is available in chapters 1 and 3 only.
