Thoughts on structure and plot

What struck me while playing BG2 was the lack of mid-game bosses, which would be cool, except what also struck me was the rather odd structure of the main plotline -

Find Irenicus - he runs off
Find Bodhi - she runs off
Find Irenicus - he runs off
    Find Bodhi - Kill her
Find Irenicus - he runs off
Find Irenicus again - Kill him.

Now I know that I am skipping huge ammounts of subquests and non-boss areas (underdark etc.) However, it kinda bugged me that I knew who I was going to fight at the end from the very start.

What would have been cool would be a plotline I was thinking they were going to do in the first dungeon. - It happened after I killed the guy in the tank to take the crystals. Imoen made a comment about death being pretty. This was after Irenicus was showing her death and torturing her etc.

And then there was the revelation that she was also a bhallspawn.

So what I thought would be cool would have been that the poor, innocent Imoen, who has been shown horrendous torture by Irenicus eventually becomes tainted.

I would have really liked the final battle to be with some monsterous-deformed-tainted Imoen who has succumbed to the power that Irenicus helped unleash on her.

That way, there could be more than one way to end the game by fighting or talking etc. I just thought it may have been a cool plot twist.

Any comments? (so long as they aren't bad)
    Thanks.

I agree that bg1 had a boss for ever chapter which gave something to look foward too, and its to bad they took that out of bg2 but something tells me they were reserving alot for an expansion, because what they did in bg1 is they had to much stuff in the original game and they couldnt add any new areas for the expansion, but now in bg2, look at all the space they left open for an expansion... they could tripple the quest count if they want... of they could just add a bunch of new little quests, see they didnt make the same mistake twice...
