I have the feeling this topic has been discussed over here but since Myst 3 is already out in the States I thought I'd reopen the file.

The game isn't released here yet but I'll be one of the first to buy it for sure. I understand that most of the American audience isn't crazy about adventure games, especially Myst-like ones that require some serious puzzle solving. What I don't get is why. I loved both Myst and Riven because of that unbelievable feeling of exploration they offered. I mean you are alone in a totally new world and in order to survive you have to understand its philosophy, experiment to learn how things work around there, be observant and imaginative... And all this without having hordes of monsters that want you dead.

I think that adventures -the good old classics, at least- are the only games that allow you to sit down, relax, have a nice cup of coffee and just have fun. Some may find it boring but it's all a matter of timing. I like running around in dungeons killing big bad demons but not all the time.

It's more or less a meaningless thread since everyone has their mind made up on the subject but I'd appreciate your thoughts. I'd like to see how many adventurers we got on these boards. Anybody?

Both games were unbelievably beautiful. I found Myst's puzzles too easy, unfortunately; I think it took me less than six hours to finish the game. Riven, on the other hand, was a good challenge, and involved a lot more note-taking. There's a good chance I'll buy Myst III, although I've been cutting down my gameplaying.

I'm really looking forward to this - Riven was amazing, as was Myst. I cant believe you found those easy - I needed the walkthrough for both - altohugh it didn't really help that I was like 11 or something. Also, had anyone read the Myst books? I've only read the first one, but its bloody good.

I've read the first three; I thot there were more but I'm not really sure. Haven't surfed for them yet, too much on my plate as it is. I think I did resort to a walkthrough twice on Riven, to my undying shame. Myst tho, the hardest part was mapping that dern maze. Probly took almost ten percent of my playing time just doing that.

How much of a challenge did you think Myst was, Stargazer?

[IMG] I've been playing Myst 3, and it seems like a pretty stunning game. Personally I never really got into Myst or Riven but so far Myst 3 has been interesting enough. The thing that annoyed me about Myst and Riven though was that you couldn't roate without click on the side. Myst 3 however allow you to do that easily. So it's been keeping my attention so far.

Capstone - Personally I found Myst a lot easier than Riven and a bit more... shallow. I don't know what it was but Riven's world seemed more complicated and rich. Two friends of mine finished Myst in a weekend
(extensive play). The same friends managed to finish Riven in a week ( the same extensive play). They are very good adventurers so I guess Riven must be indeed harder. And it has better music too.

Myst 3 must be really cool. I also didn't like the old interface that much. I'll have to wait a bit to get it here but when it arrives I'll be prepared. You know, food supplies, water, adventuring gear...

I played Myst I. It was beautiful and the puzzles were good but the lack of characters...anyone to talk to to/interact with drove me bonkers! I didn't replay that game. I mean all it was the father, mother, and two sons and most of the time you weren't even seeing them is person. I have to have characters to interact with.
