    Already tried to get a response to this somewhere else, but no luck yet. I figured it couldn't hurt to ask here too - here's the original post.

    Lately (starting yesterday or the day before, as far as I know) my Internet access is getting... selective. I can do most any of my normal browsing without incident, but certain sites (most importantly, www.collegeboard.com )simply won't load. I'll get the message "the operation timed out when attempting to contact website.com" or something very similar. Everyone I've talked to can access the site just fine, so it seems to be a problem that only I'm having. In the past, a simple reboot was enough to fix simple problems like this (and still often is), but no such luck this time. I've been able to circumvent this particular instance of the problem by looking up my SAT scores at school, but I'd certainly like to know what could be causing this, and any potential fixes.

    Since it's probably relevant, I'm running WinXP with SP2, I have Norton AntiVirus installed and I'm using the Windows firewall, and I'm browsing with Firefox. McAffee anti-spyware is also there, which reminds me of another annoying quirk going on. Frequently (probably about once every 2-3 hours) McAffee will give me an irritating alert that there is an update for McAffee anti-spyware available. (Even when I tell it to remind me again in two days, it'll happen again a couple hours later) If I click "update now," it takes me to a blank web page. The only way I've discovered to get rid of this is to turn McAffee off completely, which I don't really want to do. This might be a somewhat easy fix, however, if I were simply to look around and find McAffee's update page.

    So, there we go. Hopefully, someone has some insight.

    Did you try connecting the site with the firewall turned off?

    @ Morgoth

    So that they can install malware and then let you enter to a "GOTCHA!" site? :rolleyes:

    That site doesn't load to me either, so the server might be down, your Internet connection or firewall might be misconfigured, or then your ISP is screwing with you (transparent proxy or something). Check the settings, update your software, and tell if the problem persists.

    @Wirhe
    No, so that he might find out where the problem is.
