The Quest for the nwmain.exe

I recently bought a pack called "Totally Neverwinter Nights"

It consists of the OC, aswell as the two expansions spread out on 5 discs, whereas NONE of them is the actual play disc with all expansions installed. After fretting for quite a while with the discs, trying all of them one at a time, (and a few at the same time just for good measure) I ended up downloading something as simple as a NOCD-crack for it. Now before you spank me concerning the legalness of the matter, I'm sure you'd agree with my sentiments deep down, since I DID buy the game after all, no?

Today you see, I decided would be a good day to update the game, using the regular "update" button in the launcher. This ofcourse halted midways, when It realized my sneaky little nocd-crack was infact a swindler in disguise. The game still starts properly, yet I have not dared to load any of my savegames yet, in fear of what might happen with a half-updated game. Maybe it'd work like nothing happened, maybe it would work better than earlier since it is indeed half-patched, but maybe it might act like a minstrel of destruction, hurling my entire pc down a path from where it can never return.

Either way, I know well and good that I can simply reinstall the entire game, but to be honest, my Lazy nature causes me to instead embark on a noble quest searching for a non-cracked version of the nwmain.exe, overwriting my cracked version, and simply re-run the update, whom should at that point finish properly.

Another reason to my dislike of reinstalling, is that my maniacal order-fetish when it comes to my pc, would force me to clean out the entire NWN directory to get rid of all the update fragments that would have been installed here and there. Savegames can easily be backed up ofcourse, but the mess left behind is to much for me to handle. Hence, the 90 megs worth of update downloads would be wasted, which is quite a while considering I'm on a horrible at best connection.


Long, fragmented, and silly story short, I'm looking for the nwmain.exe for which would be the one compatible with all three games, if that's even an issue. I'm positive there's a soul out there with the heart and bother to have mercy upon me, and grace me with a download of it?

(Excuse the rather silly attempts of melodrama up there. I'm in a rather quirky mood, plus I haven't posted here in the forums in ages. Figured I needed a kickstart to get "back."

Download and install the Critical Rebuild.

And if you had patched it properly to begin with, you'd not be in this trouble with the nocd.

Yes. It's 74 megs. Yes. There is NO other way.

 

Yup, that's what I thought aswell, so the disc I've had in, and which was my first instinct to put in, was indeed the HotU disk. Still, it kept asking for the Play disc, and as I said, I tried all the other of the five discs aswell to no avail.

Why it does this, is beyond me, but it DOES do this. I can't prove it or anything I guess, so the only thing I have to provide you with is my word of it.

(Well, I could of course take a bunch of pics of myself holding the five cd's, the boxes with the title "Totally NWN" whom I have discovered isn't even covered as a release at biowares homepages, wearing an entirely dumbstruck expression just to concretely prove that I do indeed have it originally. Hell, I could even visit my little brother and fetch my ancient copies of the OC he's borrowing from me. Believe it or nay, I've bought the game twice! But I honestly cannae be bothered doing that. )

What I'm asking for is the original executable, not the cracked one. I probably managed to hide my intentions in my vague ways of writing there I guess. I'm more to blame than you are, so I'll try to write "properly" the next time, heh.

I never had the net at the time of the cracking to download the patch in the first place, so;

1. I couldn't and wouldn't know that this fixed the issue, and;
2. Fetching the illegal fidget at hardly a few megabytes and tossing it on a floppy was my easiest way out of the predicament at the moment.
I just wanted to play the game after all! Blame me for that those who wish.

Anyway, I've in a fit of utter boredom uninstalled the game, reinstalled it, and trugded through another 3 hours worth of downloading the patch. (Of which actually crushed every other activity I tried doing over the net. Even Instant Messege programs didn't work.

The end of the story is good though, the game is working, I'm happy, you're hopefully convinced that I didn't perform THAT evil of a deed, (The end justifies the means, isn't that what they say?) my scythe-wielding Weapon Master plows through everything, and life goes on in it's merry go-round.
