The plural of mouse

    OK, the plural of mouse (when talking about the animal) is mice, however, when talking about a computer mouse, is it mouses or mice when there is more than one?

    (I've just typed the words mouse and mice so much that they have lost all meaning!)

    According to the Concise Oxford Dictionary it is "mice" also for computer mice.

    If the plural of mouse is mice, why isn't the plural of house hice?

    That's a great way to confuse a real dummy, did it to a girl I worked with once. It kept her quiet all afternoon

    If the plural of Goose is Geese, why isn't the plural of Moose written as Meese?

    English is wonderful in that it lays down clear rules for grammar and spelling and then proceeds to ignore them more often than follow them!

    For those who like this sort of thing, I recommend Lederer's "Crazy English", where he lists and discusses this sort of nonsense. My favorite:

    If the teacher taught, why didn't the preacher praught?
