[IMG] Hi! I've been warned against it, but I would like to know why I've been warned against it. My fellow is in Iraq right now, so he wont be any good for me :shame: .
Is it altering the game too much? Is it making the enemy mages too tough? or is it just making the game better? All and any comments on this mod will be appreciated.

It doesn't do anything on the enemy side of things. The only thing it does is raise the levels that you're allowed to attain. The regular game allows up to 40, the lvl50 mod (as per its name) allows up to 50. The only thing it does besides that is to fix spell progressions so that they conform with 2e standards (ex. the extremely nerfed bard).

EDIT: Truth be told, I seem to have gotten this a slight bit mixed up with BG1, where it was a separate mod. The level 50 expansion for BG2 is part of EoU, found at www.weidu.org .

Hey I must be making a mistake, I really meant spell level 50 mod (the Weimar mod), wich I thought Felinoid was referring to :) I will edit the subject.
Edit: Sorry Fel for the inconvenience

Spell-50? Oh hell no. Like PC and enemy mages need to be more powerful. You might like it if you want your spellcasters to be supreme nukers, but it breaks the spirit of 2e rules, and makes enemy spellcasters (at least, those above 20th level) more powerful too.

Hey I wanted to try it, but then I was too scared. Really. I think and agree with Fel that it can be really unbalanced, mages are VERY powerful already. :p

I've tried it and if you are playing a magic-user type, you will NEVER play the game again without it...

You just start respecting protection from energy/magic/fire/cold etc etc spells a lot more and you will definitely get a lot more bang for the buck from your spells as well...

    I DEFINITELY approve!! :thumb:

^I beg to differ, Faraaz, that mod is cool but in the end, it makes unbalanced games. Really. Especially if you do solo a magic user, you will have amazing levels and NO enemy will be able to stand against you. If you want power, go for it then!

@Silverstar: What are you talking about? You of ALL people shouldn't be saying that!!

Can you imagine how much harder Improved Sendai (the screwed up 4 Project Image version you have) would be with the mod on?? Or Ascension?? Or maybe Tactics with Improved Liches, Beholders, Vampires?

    Improved Firkraag, Improved Bodhi??

You have to keep in mind, everything you can do the enemies can as well. If you are getting 40d8 ADHWs, those Liches are getting them as well...atleast, its like 34d8 for the ones you fight before Kangaxx I think (can't remember a Liches level)...watever.

The point is that it makes high-level battles a LOT more exciting...

I love it! And btw, I had that installed for Ascension and still kept getting my butt handed to me. The numerical variables for spell values are not as important as good tactics and the combinations of spells used, both by you and the enemies. The spells themselves are not rendered redundant by the mod...it enhances the gameplay a lot IMO.
