This movie definitely wasn't for me. Now I know how someone who doesn't like fantasy must have felt while sitting through any of the Lord of the Rings movies. This was a long film, and while Howard Hugh's definitely led an interesting life, this would have been better showcased as an E! True Hollywood story.

Now, for all of you biopic and nostalgia lovers, this might be a great flick. DiCaprio probably nailed the part of Howard Hughs, and Cate Blanchett was probably spot on with her portrayal of Katharine Hepburn. I knew little about these folks and therefore couldn't tell you how accurate the film is.

My wife and I were the youngest folks in the theater by about 30 years, so we stuck out like an elderly couple at Alien vs Predator. The occasional titters from the audience at the bland comedic portions made me feel like I was watching a movie with my grandparents.

Anyway, it was a snoozer for me. I think I'm going to have to start staying away from the big-name actor, epic (long) movies gunning for an Oscar win. I'd rather laugh at the cheesiness of a B-movie than sit through a drawn-out self-indulgent drama. Did anyone else see this and enjoy it?

I have not seen it myself but my parents saw it with a couple of their friends (all of them in the 50 something range) and they were all just as thoroughly bored by it as it sounds like you were. The only difference being that they all thought that DiCaprio was a terrible Howard Hughs.

My dad is a big airplane nut (he is one of those guys who can look at a jumbo jet that is flying overhead and tell you what type of plane it is, what company flies that type of plane, and given the direction of travel, acceleration, and time of day a list of possible destinations for that flight) and even he didn't like it.
