I'm pretty sure these guys attack you no matter what when you enter, so I think I'd be better off clearing out the camp before I go in?

Yeah, if you entered the bandit camp by fake joining, the bandits on the outside will initially be neutral, but the ones in the tent will see through your ruse and attack you no matter what.
Once you've initiated combat with them, the bandits outside will turn hostile as well.
Also, keep in mind that the gnolls that are in the cave will also find out that you are not really a bandit and will attack you, but even if you kill all of them the rest of the camp will not turn hostile.

Honestly, it doesn't really matter in which order you take them on - outside first and then the tent or the other way around - If you're worried about the enemies inside the tent overpowering you you could clear the outside area first so you have somewhere to fall back to, but honestly the encounter shouldn't be too difficult.

Just make sure to focus the mage first, and i'd also advice you to quickly kill the hobgoblin since he can poison you with his arrows, bringing you down pretty quick.

Just killed the tent and came outside, apparently none heard the noise :) I jumped the guy with the full plate and just picked off everyone else! Much easier then I had anticipated.

Yeah, taking out Taurgosz Khosann (the guy in plate, leader of the blacktalon mercs) is probably the hardest out of all the enemies outside since he has a decent ac and hp, and can hit for pretty nasty damage as well.
Ardenor crush , the leader of the hobgoblins is a bit tougher then the rest of the bandits as well, but really nothgin to worry about since you can lay him out pretty quickly.

I guess it's off to the cloakwood mines for you now. :D

There are a few chests that I can't open, just wondering if I'm missing something :(

Probably, though aside from the gauntlets of weapon expertise, a medium Shield +1 and a wand of fear, there's nothing exceptional hidden there, the rest of the loot is all GP or jewelery, some potions and other minor inconsequential items.
