The strongholds actually offer very little to the game. Most people I've heard found them pretty useless. My cabin in the Umar Hills was used mainly as a dumping ground for useless stuff that I thought I'd come back for eventually but never did. Now the stronghold quests were fun IMO (at least the Ranger quests were).

[IMG] Yep - after you did the few nice stronghold specific quests that´s it. Even the thieves guild is kinda boring: You have to organize your thieves work and keep your folk in line, hm, great.

I expected some REAL thief quests like in BG-1: Go into a protected & secured building/ area and steal something pretious (of course alone - thief style). I am pretty disappointed when think over this again.

I believe that they all do, but I don't think that that's the point. The strongholds are supposed to be just an extra added quirk in the game, like love interests. It allows the storyline to assume that after your misadventures, you have a place to go home to. I think that it would be cool if Throne of Bhaal manipulated your character depending upon which stronghold you have.

If you look at the walkthrough and hint sections for BG2 on this web site you'll see a link to the IGN Baldur's Gate II Walkthrough. This has a section called Extra Features. This lists the details of all of the quests etc for the various strongholds. (The only one it misses is the Monk - but this is the same as for the fighter classes). I would give you the details of the various strongholds here but there are 8 of them with quite a few quests in each and I can't be bothered to type that much.

Sapiryl is right. The strongholds only help you "flesh out" your character.

There's a similar function in The Elder Scrolls games where you can buy houses and boats and stuff. That is really a huge waste of time and gold (it took me 1/2 an hour to find my house after I bought it).

(now lets see if I get flamed for brining up TES in a BG2 forum!)

as a mage, i think the sphere stronghold is very very useless. should've given mages a lab of some sort to craft spells and magic items, instead of having a bunch of useless apprentices trying to create useless stuff (and usually failing).

isnt there anything to do with that freakin' sphere after you completed the quests? cause damn its dull to have a great ball in the middle of the slums, and havin' nothin' to use it for, and the quests weren't that cool either.

Then maybe you should send them home, go talk to Ribald at the adventurers Mart (or you could send them to the radiant heart but they won't be happy)
