[IMG] I have only done the Fighter and Thief strongholds.
Out of all the stronghold quests, which one do you prefer? Wondering which PC to create for an eventual new game...
BTW, what quest does Monk get?

Monk gets Fighter one if I'm not mistaken and my favorite is the bard stronghold. Get to put on a play

I agree that the Bard stronghold is probably the most entertaining, and it's also very detailed. In terms of quality items, I definitely would have to go with the Paladin Stronghold, where one of the rewards is a set of Full Plate Mail +2 called Pride of the Legion, although the druid stronghold does give a spiffy +2 Ring of Protection.

The Planar Sphere - same as the mage.

    SPOILER:

Not that great of a stronghold. You get a belt, and then get apprentices that will attempt to make items for you. If you direct them to make the easiest items, even if they succeed, you get crappy items. If you instruct them to make the more difficult items, one or more of them will die in the process, although sometimes you'll still get a decent item out of it.

If you don't mind killing off your apprentices, then yes, you can potentially get something powerful. However, each item has a % chance of success, with the harder items having a lower probability of being successful than the easier items. Depending on what item you ask them to make, there's a greater or lesser chance that they fail. Moreover, for the really hard items, one or more of the apprentices will die in the attempt - and that's guaranteed - whether the remaining apprentice(s) succeed in making the item or not. For the easy items, the chance of success is higher, and the apprentices won't die, but those items are crap that you won't have any use for.

The items in the Mage Stronghold aren't free by the way. You have to pay for the items you want (this includes paying for one of three scrolls that you may already have or don't need),but some of the later ones fairly decent.

Monks do indeed get the fighter stronghold- unless you have Oversight, of course. If this is the case then you ahould know of the component that changes their stronghold to a temple.

My favourite would be the Paladin one, quite simply because the plate armour you get at the end looks good! :D

You get Carsomyr killing Firkraag, not for doing the Paladin stronghold.

I've taken each except for the playhouse. I like the De'Arnise Keep best. Don't know why.

True, they aren't free, but they are not so prohibitively expensive that you won't be able to afford them. For the easy items that won't kill off your apprentices, you're looking at only a few hundred gold pieces. For the harder items, the prices do run up to several thousand gold pieces, especially for the Robe of the Apprenti, which is probably the one item good enough to consider killing your apprentices for a chance to get.

I enjoyed all of the strongholds, some more than others. heres how I rate them.

1.Paladin: I like the kits and you get some cool Items that make a powerful character even better.

2.Cleric: I did the Talos kit here. It was cool telling people to commit murder then ratting them out to the guards.

3.Bard: Quite the dramma :shake: , It gives you a nice change of pace and is just plain fun.

4.Ranger: I liked the mondog you get as a reward and I like the ranger kits. :heh:

5.Mage: I liked the Planar Sphere as a home. And I enjoy the gamble of trying to get a powerful magic item. :money:

6.Thief: Just to experience the underhanded world of thieves. :hahaerr:

7.Druid: Druid Challenges are a fun fight and I liked the storyline of this quest. :)

8.Fighter: It was an enjoyable quest but the best part was being called Lord!

I think the Ranger stronghold was the best.

I've only done fighter, thief, cleric and ranger. Ranger was the best imo. The fighter stronghold was pretty boring.

The Thief stronghold would've been good had it not been so short and pathetic :p Does the mod do much for this stronghold?

I love the mod which enhances thief stronghold, it adds quite a few quests, NEW options, and unparalelled FUN! I encourage all you roguish players to get it ASAP! :thumb:

Mage stronghold is very rewarding if you know how to do it. There are somethings you need to know, some signs which show if the apprentices will succeed or not, and there are even some conditions for them to suceed. (like all should be alive at the final test, etc.) But an ADHW scroll is priceless, and Staff of Power is indeed very very powerful.

Improved Anvil modifies four of the strongholds and adds new features to them:

    1- Mage
    2- Bard
    3- Ranger
    4- Paladin

The most rewarding changes are perhaps applied to the mage stronghold. On the other hand, the battles before gaining the strongholds have also been enhanced. In short, you will face more challenges, but you will also gain better rewards.
