I've spent my spare time in the past week dl'ing mods for BG1 and BG2 with starting a new game in mind. I finished my "work" on the BG1 mods tonight. I'd appreciate if those really knowledgeable in Tutu could take a look at my notes and tell me if I should be good to go.

I'm least comfortable with my portrait mods since I couldn't look at what all of them offered but I figure I can always use ShadowKeeper to fix anything I get stuck with that I don't care for. Here's my notes:

Thanks in advance for any help offered.

I've recently installed BG1 with similar mods and I had problems with two of them. EasyTutu Hotfixes should be skipped, it caused problems with Unfinished Business (I couldn't install most of it's mods because of it) and it messed up all my ingame icons. I tried installing the game without it and everything worked.

Another thing is the Sirine's Call Quest mod which, if I remember correctly, has a problem with something... I think it's with the latest beta NPC Project, but I'm not sure... I do remember some readme telling that there could be problems so I skipped that as well.

    Everything else should work...

Yes, there's something with Sirenes Call, but I don't remember wether it is due to BG1NPC or SCS. What I do remember is, that you somehow can get a fix / fix it yourself. It's mentioned at PPGs forums. Remember not to install montaron as assasin from G3s Tweakpack if installing SCS.

Thanks for the headsup about the EasyTutu Hotfixes. I'll skip them.
I think I read that Sirine's Call had a problem with the beta of Unfinished Business but I noticed that version 4 of UB has come out in the past day or so. I haven't read anything about BG1NPC or SCS having a problem with Sirine's Call. I'll delve a little deeper. My game didn't come in the mail today :-( so it looks like I'll have the weekend to tweak my mod list some more.

Drizzt Saga is a nice mod, though it gives Drizzt and his companions a central role. That is, they are so powerful that most battles of the game will be easy as pie with Drizzt on your side. (On a side note, Drizzt has no paperdoll -- you know, the picture of your character that appears in your inventory.)

I haven't seen Grey Clan Episode One: In Candlelight on your list. It's my mod, and I think players usually like it. You can't get overpowered items and any such stuff, I believe it's not overpowered.

BG2 Fixpack (or Baldurdash, or any fixes for BG2) is not needed for an EasyTutu game as Macready has incorporated the relevant fixes into EasyTutu itself. Baldurdash for BG is, I believe, recommended, though for all I know Macready addresses these bugs as well.

As for EasyTutu hotfixes, I've never experienced an issue with these. In my last run, I used the latest BG UB beta alongside BG1 NPC and experienced no issues. Sirine's Call has a few minor errors (some characters aren't assigned names) and is essentially unsupported at this point. As for portrait previews, I believe most, if not all, of the G3 ones offer previews in the portrait gallery, though they're admittedly not organized very intuitively.

Yeah, the creature files used by this component use an unconventional file structure, so it works fine in the game but may not play nicely with other mods. It'll be changed in the next version.

I think I'll skip Drizzt saga, then. I prefer the notion of the game being all about my character. No need to take a back seat to the philosophical ranger. I'll look around and see if I can find Grey Clan before I start to play. (My game wasn't in the mail today :-( so I have at least one more night of mod tweaking before I get started.

I didn't realize there was Baldurdash for BG1. I guess I'll dl that and install it before I set up EasyTutu. Thanks for the tip. I've been leery about Sirine's Call. I think I may skip it, especially since it is unsupported. I've seen the portrait previews over at G3. My main question is I don't know how they all work. Since so many of them are executables I don't know what gets overwritten, etc. I figure I'll just install all the pretty pictures I can and see what happens, lol.

Edit: What about Moinesse's Avatars and One Pixel Productions? It looks to me like they both do the same thing yet many pages say to install both.

    Heh.

As for BG Baldurdash, my mistake--according to the EasyTutu readme it's already included, so don't bother. :)

Good to know. I'll remove it from my mod list now. Thanks for all the help, though!

I went through my weidu.log from my last Tutu run for a few additional recommendations.

I'd add jastey's Slime Quest--I know she's working on an expanded package (more mini-quests), but for now it'll add a small quest in Beregost. I'd also recommend bits of Song & Silence, as it adds a new merchant with some nifty items to the Nashkel Carnival.

If you want to really make it closer to a true BG experience, also check out TutuGUI, Restored text Screens, and the BG Flaming Sword Animation from Xan.

My advice to you is to use the Wild Mage Additions mod, and convert your mage to a Spellshaper. Reduces the number of spells you can cast, but ups fighting ability, which will be good if you are still looking to use 3 mages. Also has a few nifty abilities. It does add a tough fight in, but it shouldnt be anywhere near as difficult as SCS. At least, if you know what to do ;)

To CamDawg: I put this in an edit of a post but I think it slipped through: what about Moinesse's Avatars and One Pixel Productions? It looks to me like they both do the same thing yet many pages say to install both.

BG1 Slime Quest's dl links seem to be down. I followed the link from SP and got the dreaded 404 error. Similarly, I couldn't find a dl link for BG Flaming Sword Animation.

To TrueBlueAussie: I'm planning on running Wild Mage Additions when I get to BG2. I don't really want to play as a Spellshaper. I want vanilla Wild Mage.

To Baronius: I've added Grey Clan to my mod list now. Thanks for your hard work in making something to enhance my game play. Will Grey Clan part two be for BG1 or BG2?

Moinesse's avatars are about changing the appearance of your character on the game screen, whereas One Pixel productions is more concerned with the paperdolls (picture of character on the inventory screen) and item graphics. I'm a big fan of 1PP. Moinesse's avatars, to me, are jarring--for example, the thief avatar gets changed to a ninja component will make your thief look like a ninja (which may be appropriate depending on how you play your character) but it will also make all other thieves appear that way, which probably isn't.

jastey's Slime Quest is on the German language site Rosenranken (don't worry, the mod itself is available in English); BG2 Xan has the BG flaming sword comonent. (They'll eventually find their way into a future release of 1PP, but for now this is your best source. And yeah, I know it's a 30 meg download for a cosmetic sword change. :) ) cmorgan's pretty active on the Tutu mod list thread, so I'd trust those links more than others.

Its second part will also be for BG1, but I can't develop it, so maybe it's years before it gets released. However, GCE1 should be okay to be a stand-alone mod as well.

It's not too easy though, but there are a lot of possibilities to win the battles (it doesn't require the player to be a tactical expert). Consequently, it's easy if you find one of the numerous tactics/solutions.

To CamDawg: I'm not a big fan of ninjas in Western-style sword & sorcery either. I guess I'll skip Moinesse's Avatars. Thanks for clearing up my confusion on that and One Pixel Productions.

I'm not seeing a dl link on the Rosenranken page you linked too. It could be my lousy German but there's not much on the page for me to be messing up. I do have the link for BG2 Xan. Thanks for that.

To Baronius: Glad to hear GCE1 is fine as a stand alone mod. I'm looking forward to it (as to all of BG1, blasted mailman! lol).

Is Sword Coast Stratagems going to be really hard on a my mage-heavy party? I could do a minimum install of it if my wee mages are going to be bait.

Just be cautious when installing SCS. It's probably more in favour of enemy mages and priests. But also helps fighters ie by giving them potions :) You will just love SCS after a while (at least when you have played a lot without)

Yes you get used to SCS after a while. You need to protect your mages at low levels, but that is same for unmodded games also. One critical hit from a diseased gibberling and you can have one dead mageling. (esp. if CON score is low)

I love 1PP too, but I do not think Moinesse's Avatars are up to my tastes.

GCE1 is a very good mod. Just wait till you are high enough lvl to start the quest and you will have less trouble finishing it.

Do not forget to share your TuTu adventures with us!

Xan indeed has the flaming sword component. It's not necessary to install the mod itself; just choose this component for your BG2/Tutu/BGT game.

By the way, v6 of the mod - which, incidentally, just got released, and features a Polish translation and extended crossmod content with Dungeon Crawl and Romantic Encounters - weights only 13mb. I know it's not 2mb(flame sword itself), but still, better than 30.

I didn't realize that was part of the SP forums. I've seen the campfire threads over at the official forums but I haven't seen such threads here at SP.

I was a little daunted by 30mb for just a flaming sword. 13mb is much better. DL'ing now.

Edit: Where in the mod list should Xan v6 be installed?
