    You don't need to worry too much about things to buy as there will be plenty of loot :)
    However after you return the Adventurer Mart will be retocked, so if there is anything you want 2 of (rod of ressurection, ring of air control) you might wan to grab one now and one when you come back.

    Bring some spell scrolls for Imoen to memorize.She doesn't have many spells.And stock some potions. And maybe a wooden stake.

    If you're going to take Imoen, take these scrolls:
    Blur, Invisibility, Melf's minute meteors, Skull Trap, Sunfire, Cone of Cold.

    Also, the robe from Adventurer's Mart (Robe of Vecna) would be very useful.

    I would also recommend Tasheron's Bow from Trademeet.

    I agree with Robe of Vecna and Tasheron's Bow but I would stock up on spells - all the spells she hasn't got yet (or just all the scrolls you can get your hands on if you want to use the cheesy delete/rewrite spell approach). She'll be low level when you get her back so all the "free" exp. from memorizing spell scrolls is worth getting.

    EDIT: Staff of the Magi is a must if she's your primary spell caster. I'd also stock up on potions to raise INT.

    *might be a slight spoiler, but if you ask, I assume you want to know*

    Staff of the Magi is in the house in the Bridge district, on the opposite side of the Temple of Helm, near the river. When you open the door and try to go in, the game says it is not possible. You must have a Rogue Stone in your inventory if you wish to enter.

    Save before trying to go in - the battle inside will be very tough.

    You can do just fine with the stuff you'll find at Brynlaww for Imoen. If you intend on using her as your primary mage, I wouldn't try to get anything special for her at all. As a matter of fact, my advice would be to rush to Spellhold ASAP so that you can get her into your party and have her start gaining levels!

    As Soon As Possible.

    And Klorox is right. The enemies guarding the Staff of the Magi are pretty tough so you probably need to be high level before you take them on. The Staff and all the other great stuff for a mage will be there when you get back so it's better to get Imoen ASAP (in order to build up her exp.).

    I almost always finish Chapter 2 before going to Brynlaww but that's because I almost never use Imoen :D

    I always finish the whole chapter 2, as well. It doesn't feel good to leave any quests/items behind.
    Also, you'd be a high level when you return, and chapter 2 quests would seem too easy.

    Also, Imoen has no dialogue for chapter 2 quests, unlike other NPCs, so if you complete it all with her, it's no fun.

    Hate to say it, but....
    1) The longer you leave it before you get Imoen the better. Why? There's a post I'm 95% certain in the forum somewhere, discussing what level Imoen will be when you pick her up. It's something like her level is the average party level, but if you have someone like Nalia, only her second class is counted in the average party level, but I'd look for the post.
    2) Two things about the bridge district

    a) Taking out all the critters there is a piece of cake if you have the right strategies and equipment, sometimes I leave it til after Spellhold, sometimes before, but here's some thoughts:
    i) have Yoshi or whoever your thief is, while keeping your party in the starting room, place a lot of traps in front of your front line fighters, cos a guy will teleport right in front of your party, and if you do have someone like Yosh, the guy takes some serious damage from the special snares;
    ii) if you have access to the Shield of Balduran, you give that to one of your fighters, and have him solo the beholder;
    iii) have someone else solo the vampire in there; and
    iv) have your mage throw in, I dunno, a cloudkill, or something else that will hurt before waltzing in.
    Seriously I'd take the guy out, (lich?), before rushing the beholder etc, cos while they can't see you and don't know you're in the room, they won't come looking.

    b) I know people have always queried what the Guarded compound in the temple district is really about, people suggest it's part of an unfinished slaver quest, etc. Also, how on earth you are meant to find out about the Rune Door, in the Bridge district. Well, it may be part of a slaver thing, I haven't downloaded that mod floating around that includes all the cut out quests that Black Isle or whoever's final decision it was to axe, but....I can't be 100% certain, cos I so hate the Guarded Compound, and I haven't done it for a while, though I'll admit the first level is easy with the summoned critters, nothing a good death fog, won't fix ;) Anyway, I believe there is a Rogue Stone on one of the compound guys, and if you actually click on the rogue stone, like you would to get info on a weapon or anything else in your inventory, there is a paragraph or so of writing, specifically talking about a door in the Bridge district, that a rogue stone may open. I may have ooted this stone off someone else, but there is and I could check Shadowkeeper, but I'm too lazy, you'd probably find two different id numbers for the rogue stone, one for the normal gem, one for the inscription one. But there is no difference in the selling price I don't believe.

    That's just my advice, anyway, as for Imoen and spells, well it should still be on Sorcerer's here, there was I think a nice Excel spreadsheet that someone had done up, which listed every mage spell in BG2 (maybe even ToB), and it was a checklist, of multiple columns for multiple mages in your party, and you could obviously either print it out or edit the file and tick boxes. I did actually use it once, and I found it useful from the point of everytime I went to a shop, I didn't have to write down all the spells the shop had, and check if my mages had the spell. Very useful, mind you I guess a little lame using a checklist, but if you're using multiple Potions of Genius, and still have high int, and you want your mage to know every spell in the game, then it's definitely a must :)

    Hope all that helps some of you. But I would look for that average party level thread, cos that is definitely what Imoen's level is based on, so the more quests you do the better off you are, in my current party, I think all I left behind was the compound, the rune door, and the lich quests, I did all the other quests, and my bard was like 19 or 20 before he picked Imoen up :)
