Spell Origins?

I think this is the most appropriate forum for this question as it involves all of the BI games and PnP. My question is, do the spells in BG 1 and 2, IWD 1 and 2, and PS:T have origins in PnP or are they developed for the games only. All I remember from PnP is the healing spells. Some of the spells, if they are developed only for the CRPGs, are really well concieved. Just wondering about it.

 

I think all of the spells are from the manuals...Some are a bit altered, though...

 

I know for BG2, that only few (maybe 30%) were directly from PnP (perhaps with a few minor modifications), such as Magic Missle and Fireball.
Around 30% had the same general effect, but significantly altered, such as Monster Summoning III, Stoneskin, and Holy Smite. The other 40% were just made up, like Skull Trap, Chromatic Orb, and Larloch's Minor Drain.

Chromatic Orb is a level one spell, and it is found in the 2nd ed. Wizards Handbook, on pg 95. The spells aren't made up for the games, but culled from the volumes and volumes of d&d stuff. I'm sure (though I haven't really studied them) that many of the spells can be found in that 4 volume set of spells. I can't recall the name of the set. Wizards Spell Compendium or something?

 

Sorry, Damona. The only original DnD spells I am familiar with are the ones from the Player's Handbook. D'oh.
