hello again helpful people of this board. I had another question.

The game just told me that Jan's spellbook was full when i tried to inscribe Improved Haste (6th lev. spell) to the book. Now, does this mean he can't inscribe anymore spells, or just that he can't inscribe anymore 6th level spells? Any responses would be much appreciated. Thanks in advance.

The number of spells you can inscribe in your book is limited, depending on how intelligent your character is.

Well, at least that's how it is in real AD&D. I don't know if they did the same thing for BG2.

[IMG] There is a way around this. Keep the scroll until you find a potion of intelligence or can buy one from a vendor. Two different potions can do this, can't remember their exact names but they are both of purplish hue. Drinking the potion will temporarily raise your intelligence by 3 or 4 points; enough to read the scroll(s) you have been saving.

[IMG] If you check the tables in the back of the manual you'll see how intelligence determines how many spells per level you can learn. Aerie sure runs out of space early with her intelligence of 16 :). I should have planned that better.

    Int. - Max # spells/lvl
    9 - 6
    10 - 7
    11 - 7
    12 - 7
    13 - 9
    14 - 9
    15 - 11
    16 - 11
    17 - 14
    18 - 18
    19 and above - all

Ganz is correct; the potions of genius (+4 int) and mind focusing (+3 int and dex) allow you to scribe more scrolls into your spellbook. Once there, they remain even when the potion's effects wear off. I have done this alot with Aerie since she is so limited with that 16 int; both potions allow her to scribe all spells for any level (19 int at least while under their effects).

Oh, okay, i think i understand now. Those potions are kind of important then. Thanks for the table, that is very helpful. So let me see if i understand this; My main character has an intelligence of 18, does that mean that i can have 18 spells per level? Or 18 spells period?
