Sound problems in NWN

    On my new PC, everything about NWN is miles better . . . except the character voices. The monster and neutral NPC voices are OK, but Deekin sounds like he is down the end of long tunnel, and I can barely hear my Barbarian (and Enserric) at all.

    Any ideas what has gone wrong with the voice sound in my game?

    You have your speaker selection set for surround or 4 speaker, etc but you only have 2 speakers? Check in the sound options.

    Is it just this game? Have you tried others? My brothers computer was doing a similar thing, I tracked it down and fixed it. It was one of the speaker settings.

    The only thing I have noticed is the absence of the character's voice, and the echoey muffliness of Deekin's. I've tried playing early stereo tracks like The Beatles "Day Tripper" where the vocals come out of one side and the guitar comes out the other (because that is usually a good indicator if you are missing part of the track) and that plays fine.

    In the game sound options, have you tried to turn off the EAX box + the one underneath it?

    It is an advanced audio option only available (will only work correctly) if you have a soundcard made by Creative. Shall i assume you have an onboard soundcard (Realtek audio\Miles audio or whatnot)? If so, having EAX selected will be the cause of that tunnel sound. Simply deselect it in the options menu.

    Now if that doesn't work, I have had a case of where EAX would automatically turn itself on when i booted up a game. To fix this, i would alt-tab out of the game, boot up the audio program in the taskbar and make sure the 'environment' setting under sound effects, was programed to 'none.'

    Unfortunately, this could be caused by any number of problems, hopefully you find success.
