Sound effects in Windows XP SP2

    Either I have forgotten where it is or they moved the damn thing... or they just got rid of that particular interface.

    Anywho. I'm playing IWD here and the sound effects aren't turned off when I quit the game. So I get to watch shows or listen to music with that annoying echo from the last dungeon I was in. This used to be fixed through control panel/sounds, but I don't see it there anymore. I'm not one to frequently reboot and this is damned annoying. Google doesn't seem to give any useful results and there is nothing in the MS knowledge base under sound effects.

    I'm sure someone knows the answer as this would be a problem to come up pretty frequently :) .

    If you've got a Realtek sound chip, there'll be a "Realtek HD Sound Effect Manager" (or something similar) in the Control Panel. You can change the environment to normal there to get rid of any echoing.

    If your Control Panel has a blue background, click on the "Switch to Classic View" option on the left menu. Look for the option again, the icon is a very pixelated red/orange speaker.

    Alternatively, look for any similar icons on the Start menu bar, next to where the clock is.

    @Edit: Thinking about it, in some versions of the application, the icon looks like a blue crab.
