when a socrerer rests to "memorize" spells what exactly does the sorcerer do? He obviously isn't studying a spell book like a wizard. Does he absorb magical energy or the like? My Player's Handbook doesn't seem to say anything about what the sorcerer actually does to replenish his spell bank.

The best I can offer is that a sorcerer can only cast his allotment of spells once per day. He doesn't need to prepare (one hour a day after a full rest) like a cleric or wizard to get them back. Perhaps he has inner ki like a monk? I would think a sorcerer's spells are an innate or supernatural ability as opposed to an external one.

Both sorcerers and wizards need to rest to replenish their reserves in order to cast spells. The only difference between them is that the wizards memorize their spells from their spellbooks, but sorcerers simply are able to channel the energy directly. In the end, it still comes down to energy reserves, since IMHO a 1st-level wizard would easily be able to memorize more than one measly 1st-level spell if it didn't take up part of their magical reserves.

I always figured that eight hours of rest was all that was needed for a sorcerer to replenish all his spells -- it's just like resting your mind and body.

It seems I just found that section in my handbook, who'd of thought they would talk about sorcerer spell preparation after wizard spell preparation...

I think I have a Wisdom score of 4 in PnP...
