    When am I supposed to find the elven ruins which the mage in kuldahar told me about ??

    The locked door should be easy to open once you have installed the Heart of Winter expansion pack for Icewind Dale. The elven ruins must be the Severed Hand, and I'm sure the game will lead you to it as long as you continue playing.

    The "runes" that Orrick is looking for is a book you can pick up in the severed hand library. I won't tell you which one, just take as many as you can and Orrick will take the one he wants and you sell the rest anyway.

    Now Tal why did you have to go ahead and give it away. :) The guys needs some mystry in the game. And I had to bring back tons of books from the hand to town.

    Actually the way I found out which book was required was that I dropped all the books on the ground. Later when I came back only 1 was still there. Thinking it might be important I kept it and voila, it was the one I needed.
