First of all, will the tome of strength raise you to 19 strength if you only have 18, or do you need 18/00?

Secondly, does a wisdom below 13 give a wizard a chance of failing to cast a spell?

Isn't 18 the same as 18/00? Anyway I suppose you will get 19, or 18/something.

Unfortunately the str-modification system doesn't work as in IWD :hmm:

Anyway, in BG-1 it doesn't matter if you have str-18 or 18/00 - the tome of strength will set yout str to 19 anyway.

I found it better in IWD: There a str-18 char would have had 18/50 after using a tome. Beeing boosted from 18 to 19 with the tome seems a little unballancing to me, especially in BG-1.

indeed, this is indeed a bit unnatural... due to the specialized strength of 18, the difference between strength of 18 and 19 is huge:

    ..........1... 2.... 3... 4... 5.. 6
    18........ +1 +2 110 255 11 16%
    18/01-50 +1 +3 135 280 12 20%
    18/51-75 +2 +3 160 305 13 25%
    18/76-90 +2 +4 185 330 14 30%
    18/91-99 +2 +5 235 380 15(3) 35%
    18/00 +3 +6 335 480 16(6) 40%
    19........ +3 +7 485 640 16(8) 50%

    1: To Hit
    2: Damage:
    3: Weight Allowance
    4: Max Pressure
    5: Open doors
    6: Band Bars/Lift Gates.

No that failure to cast a spell only applies to Priests, not mages.
