right now im in the middle of bg1, but when i complete it i ll definitely take a kit, so im comparing pros and cons of the best fighter kits namely kensai and berserker (i wont be dualclassing)

while in berserk mode the latter is immune to all mind disfunction (confusion, fear...) i also know that the greenstone amulet found in totsc makes up for it

unlike monks kensai s AC doesnt decrease while leveling up, while berserkers can wear armor and gauntlets

plus with the berserker i wont mind using tower shields with mastery in such which will provide him great AC vs missiles

kensai seems to be the real deal beacuse of his thac0 progressive decrease but needs to be backed by npcs

to play solo/monoclass the berserker seems to be the best choice, what do you think?

You can just tell you've sparked up the old Kensai v Berserker argument again. Ah well.

For soloing, I believe the Berserker to be the better choice. Being able to wear more equipment, he is better protected and so will survive longer.

The Greenstone Amulet does not make up for the lack of Berserking. Berserking protects from both Level Drain (which is a pain) and Imprisonment (which will instantly kill you), as well as adding bonuses.

Without a party to back him up, or a dual-class to give him more skills, the Kensai is not really versatile enough to be the better at soloing.

But once you are protected from their stunning/disabling special attacks via berserk, they can not hit you big time, their THAC0s suck, and if you have a solid AC you can have easy time:watch out for lucky criticals though. Gulp potions of Mind Focusing which raises INT and DEX (for better AC and life span.)
