I haven't tried this, but I have to imagine that BG1 would be touuughh! Your monk just isn't particularly good at, well, anything yet!

Fortunately your monk is fast. Running away is the best bet until some experience can be gained through the Fed-Ex type quests.

My basic strategy when I tried a solo Monk was to take proficiency in darts and just pelt enemies, then move away when they got too close. As you can imagine, this took quite a long time.

monks indeed suck through tutu, ur fist tach0 is too high, and with a weapon u get 1 atack (and 1 proficiency point). plus lack of ac... you basically get rocked. Though with boots of speed u can run circles around ur enemies.

Assuming an 18 starting strength, a monk is formidable after he gets the strength tome in candlekeep. Assuming you actually bother to stock up on strength potions and whatnot, the monk is actually quite formidable well before then, as well. I've never had trouble using a monk in a party with Tutu. The monk should solo just fine, considering that he'll level up farther and faster soloing than he will with a party to hold him back.

I don't think a Monk can actually use any STR potions, except those that grant a basic 18 anyway.

I think a solo Monk in BG1 would be really hard to do. But a Monk in BG2 with a 19 STR would be an absolute powerhouse!

@Klorox: You can in Tutu, at least.

Yeah, the easiness of levelling made itself apparent to me when my solo Fighter reached level 7 before I'd finished chapter 3. I just need more patience, I guess.
But which missile weapon do you think would be more useful to me: the sling, or darts?

    Darts; you get 3 attacks/round.

You can throw darts faster (3 ApR) so it's better against spellcasters. It has lower damage but IIRC your strength damage is added to damage of dart.

BTW how will you open locked things with a solo monk? That str+1 tome is in a locked chest that you can not open with 18 str.

Draw on Holy Might (must have a rep above 9 during one of the last two dreams).

Otherwise, just take Safana to the cave to unlock the chest. You can dump her immediately afterwards.

It's con+1 tome and it's not locked. Str+1 tome should be under Candlekeep. I soloed tutu with a half-orc f/t and with 19 str and DUHM i couldn't open it.

Oops -- still applies though. Use a thief of your choice.

Do two-handed weapons work better for bashing in BG1 or tutu?

Well, I installed a certain component of a certain mod, which made this problem... not a problem anymore.
    Permanently.
