Had a one-shot a few weeks back. We enjoyed it very much and start a campaign soon. The simplicity is kinda nice, but has some drawbacks.

I played a lvl 4 Rogue (Arcane Trickster). Such a character seems very powerful. Or we might have interpreted the rules wrong. Thing is, sneak attack is really easy. And with combat being somewhat more deadly/explosive, this is a very powerful ability indeed.

I like how they implemented magic and spell casting, the way of memorizing and resting.

Feats seem somewhat overpowering. I had the Observant feat, which gives a +5 to your passive Perception and Investigation checks (among other things). That gave me a standard 20 on, say, searching for traps, without making actual, active searches. All DC's of the traps in our dungeon were lower than that. So the DM was forced to tweak my feat in order to bring back some tension.

Clerics are no longer heal bots (unless you choose to). And that's good. Several other classes have means to retrieve (their own) HPs. This gives room to actually cast the spells you want as a cleric and don't feel sorry to let your companions die. The person who played our cleric felt like his spell casting was kinda gimped, though, with few spells to cast/day.

It's much tougher to excel in a certain niche. Good thing is that one-trick-ponies are not really something you have to worry about, but on the downside it's harder to stand out as well. I don't know, for instance, how a cleric of Pelor/Lathander (your typical Undead Bashers) are any better at Turning Undead than clerics of Oghma (god of knowledge) or even Myrkul (god of death).

What I like most about the new concept is that they really encourage you to play a character iso a file cabinet of tricks and abilities. And they give plenty of tips for fleshing out a personality (like character traits, bonds and flaws).

Toughest thing in playing this new edition is forgetting about the rules/feel of the older edition (in my case, 3.5)

As with 4th edition, there are some nice subsystems, but overall they failed in bringing the 3rd and 4th edition fans back together. WotC won't see any more money from me.

I'll do what I've been doing for years now. I'll steal some stuff and add it to my massive list of Pathfinder houserules.
