[IMG] Is anyone here a Boy Scout? Or does anyone even know what they are?

    I'm curious.

I spent a few years as a boy scout. I quite when I figured out that I hated what was the main point with the scouts. Hiking and camping and living out doors. I loathe sleeping in a tent and I quite just as I figured that out. Took me two years to stop tormenting myself.

I am an Eagle Scout (for those who don't know, the Eagle is the highest you can go - it means you can participate until you are eighty without having to pay for it!) But after I moved from my hometown, I have not participated or gotten involved in anything locally (for lack of time, mostly).

And unlike Joac, I love the outdoors ("roughing it") and go camping, backpacking, or hiking as often as I can - I wish I was a mountain man, sometimes (but then I would not have access to BoM!!!)

I'm LDS, so I was in Cub Scouts, Weblos (sp), and then Boy Scouts. At scout camps, I think the Mormon troops got into more trouble than any other troop there. The last scout camp I went to, the younger scouts cut down a huge, dead pine tree. Unfortunately, it fell right in to out campsite and crushed a few tents.

Too many rules, not enough fun, lazy leaders, and lame activities made me quit when I was one badge short of becoming a life scout...oh well. :rolling:

Apart from camping, learning "surviving in the wild skills", dance, songs, helping others, Boy Scout is after all another organization. All organization are subjected to power struggle.

So, beside learning all these and having fun, i was also involved in power struggle when i was a boy scout back in high school. The good thing is, after all the struggling, stepping your friends while reaching the top, we are still brothers (not just friends). Because, as a whole, we went through all these hardship together (camping, torture by seniors and such), our bonds are very strong, even we are from different classes.

By classes, i mean, in here, we pretty much stick in the same class in the whole period in high school. In my high school, rather big one, each grade has at average ten classes. We divide classes according to enrollment test. You excel in the test, they put you in 1st class. So it is quite significant that in boy scout, 1st class mix with 10th class just fine.

I'm glad to hear it guys.

I am a Boy Scout for nearly 10 years(I'm 16 now) and I will continue on and on. I'm now in the third "grade" of Boy Scouts(the kids who go at high school, the first is for kids in elementary school and the second for children in junior high school)

Kitrax, I don't think it's like that. Probably your leaders were not good enough or you had a problem with the other kids. Boy Scouting is a wonderful organization.

I am also an Eagle Scout. I always enjoyed scouting. We did a lot of good in the community and had a lot of fun.

Welcome then! I hope you continue and have fun, Dungeon_Master :)

Have you guys heard of the "REGATTA"?
It's an international camping for 'sea' Scouts in July 20th. And it will take place near Thessaloniki(where I live).

BTW, have you different Scouts in your countries? eg. we're the 'mountain' Scouts, there are also the 'sea' and the 'air' Scouts.

I am also an Eagle Scout. Whenever I started with them, it was pretty fun. Later on, the adults actually started taking a real role in running things which many of the older boys didn't like. Whenever I left (for those of you that don't know, 18 is the maximum age you can be in there), it had really begun to lose the enjoyment that was present years before.

Ah, boy scouts was good fun, except for the scout work ;) . Scouts seemed really just a big punch up. We used to play a game called "Blood Bowl" where you had to hit the ball on the opposite wall. No holds barred, so there were a lot of bruises. There weren't that many members in the end, and I was the biggest, which made it even more fun!
