Question: In the Mindflayer city, there is a gladiator who is named Argosus, that suggests he has a quest function, but when I decide to butcher the whole silly bunch of mindsuckers I always encounter him hostile - is there any way to free him and his kin?

Anyone here who has a idea?

I wondered about that too. I tried a number of different conversation options with the insane dwarf jail keeper, in addition to just hacking my way through.

The guy is always red. Did you read the description if you ID him? Said something about a man who you can tell hungers for freedom or something. Yet he always attacks you.

The last time I tried to see what I was missing, he was red, and all the other guys in the room were blue (friendly). They all attacked anyway, and I dipped 5 points toward evil for each one that I took down...

I personally think there was a "Sparticus" type quest in there, but they dropped for time restraints, or it just sucked.

It clearly is a bug. I first butchered my way all through mindflayer town  :spin: until I spoke with the elder brain and gave him the mirror.

When I then returned to the ... dead upper city  and went to the slave pens Argosus, the leader, was the only one hostile.

I enventually tried and erred a little until I solved the problem with the console - eventually that's what it was made for - debugging. Activate it, typing "DebugMode=1" and the enter "dm_setfaction", then disable the console with "DebugMode=0".

Then you can talk to him and tell him to flee, or wait.

That's odd...when encountering the same situation in my game, I was able to talk to him just fine. I've never had him red, although when I spoke to him he was kind of a dick.

Anyway, IIRC, I was given the choice to kill him and all his slave fellows (wouldn't do that), leave them to revolt on their own, or insist they wait intil you kill the mother brain thing before revolting. He refuses to wait, I believe, because he doesn't trust you or something. Either way, when you step outside the slave pens, you see the slaves fighting the mind flayers and umberhulks. I expected, after finishing that quest, to meet up with at least Argosus in the Drow camp or even the Illithid city gates, but nope. May be a broken quest, but who knows.

That's what happened to me anyway.

I didn't finish it, because I had already given the mirror to the elder brain then, and didn't want to butcher on all the way again ... freeing him the would have spoiled that quest.

I read some others complaining about the hostile Argosus on the BIS boards, without anyone offering a solution. Aaah, they should have come to SP methinks ... ;)

This quest has always worked fine for me. Also, the slaves were willing to stay where they were - perhaps it was a persuade check.

I think that's correct, Alavin. I was playing a Fighter 10/Champion of Torm 1/Weapon Master x at the time, with a CHA of like 8. So yeah - my persuasion skill kinda blew. :D

[IMG] I just slaughtered the buggers along with the mindflayers.

My alignment was already Lawful [100] Evil [0] at that time.

    That magic mirror's mine!
