Skull Trap in Spell Sequencer always fails?

    Why is it that whenever I have Imoen put a Skull Trap in a Spell Sequencer, it always fails when the sequencer goes off? At first I thought it would be great to put 3 Skull Traps in to the Sequencer, but all three would almost always fail with the "One of the spells has failed" message. With a bit of testing, I found:

    1) Targetting any party member (including summons) works as expected, i.e. the spell doesn't fail, but I'd obviously rather avoid damaging my own party.
    2) Targetting any other non-party (be it citizens in a tavern or that crew behind the Rogue Stone door) causes it to fail.

    What am I missing? Can't a Skull Trap be used in a Sequencer?

    Skull trap has a rather short range (shorter than fireball). So if you use that sequencer on a too far target, it fails. The same happens when you cast a sequencer of Stoneskin, mirror image on others than yourself :)

    That also happens with Cone of Cold, as well, because of the short range. Strangely, Prismatic Spray works well...
