[IMG] Is the silver sword 'that' good to use?
I mean, okay, a +3 enchantment counts for something but can it kill Kangaxx, or Demogorgon? All monsters that requires a +4 enchantment and more to kill?

Even with Kangaxx, if I manage to hit with it, is there a chance that even with a +3 weapon, the demilich could die, because of the ability?

[IMG] I think the Silver Sword is just an excuse to tease and kill some Githyankis.

It's ok for awhile but you are right, eventually many better options present themselves.

10% chance of save vs. death isn't that good, or the chance big enough to justify it. I wouldn't keep it for very long...

I believe what Zephyr Angel (and me too) really wants to know is: if someone is immune to +3 weapons and lower, but you attack him with, let's say, the +3 vorpal sword, does the chance of insta-kill still apply? In other words, when a creature is immune to a certain enchantment level, is it also immune to the other effects of the weapon or only to damage? IIRC, creatures immune to +3 weapons can be stunned by Celestial Fury, but take no damage from the weapon. Am I making any sense here?

I understand the question. While I do not know for sure, my guess is no, it won't work. The enchantment is hard-coded in the weapon, so any damage effects (which I would presume include insta-death) won't work. That's also why weapons like Daystar won't work on the demi-lich. Even though it says it's +4 undead, it's coded as a +2 weapon, so it does nothing.

The percentage chance to kill only applies when you actually hit the thing, so no, it won't apply to, say, Kangaxx.

I got a friend who couldn't take on the final battle in ToB - until he equiped Sarevok with the Silver Sword and unleashed a Greater Whirlwind.

I've taken Irenicus as well as Dragons with it since the "chance to kill" seems to work even if the enchantment's to low.

By the end, it's a very "all or nothing" sword.

I could have sword that somebody used the silver sword to kill kangaxx. I read it on these fourms somewhere. They wree remarking on how funny it was to have decapitated a demilich. So unless there's another vorpal weapon in the game, the sword could kill kangaxx.

Kangaxx is immune to all forms of Death Magic, so the Silver Sword's effect cannot kill him theoretically.

A doubt somewhat related to the thread...when I do have +4 weapons and better eg: Crom Faeyr in main hand I only hit for like 4-5 damage...how come?

My guess is the vorpal effect still forces the target to save vs death, regardless of whether the damage got through or not. Sort of like magical weapons that deal elemental damage per hit - even if someone is protected against magical weapons, the elemental damage still gets through (assuming you roll a hit).

But yeah, I wasn't too pleased with this sword. First of all, it USED to be single handed, which I liked better. And secondly by the time you get it, the damage you can dish out would kill the monster long before the 10% chance thing kicks in.

The silver sword is one of the weapons that I often have forged by Cromwell but seldom get round to using. It's +3 and it's got a 10% chance to kill an enemy outright, but that never seems any really big deal compared to, say, Crom Feyr with its 25 STR and massive damage.

@Benanthalin: How the HELL could you kill Adalon with it when you can only have it made in chapter six?

As far as I know, there are two possibilites to do that. 1.) To go back to Underdark after getting the complete sword in Athkatla. 2.) CLUAConsole

so, the sword is worthless, in the ending stages of the game, when nearly all monsters need higher enchantments?
or could someone mod it to be more formidable, I actually like this baby, than the other weapons in the game, especially when you keep up the slaying spree to thirteen orcs in a row in a single battle, thanks to the weapon's ability.

Console I wanted to see what the infamous Vorpal sword was because I had never found it in a game beforehand. I didn't know you had to keep the blade so I always gave it back to the Githyanki.

Off topic a little, am I the only one to realise the fact that the 10% kill chance of the Vorpal Sword is explained off as the chance to completely server heads, and yet discussion has been held about its usefulness against Kangaxx the Demi-Lich?

Nothing really, I just found it humorous. :D
