[IMG] I started only a few days and didn't really know where I was going with my character, he is a fighter and is proficient with katana's (cos they're cool :D ) and I was wondering if I should multiclass him or go straight fighter?

If anyone suggests a multiclass could they please back it up with the bonuses, thanks :) .

another quick question, my dexterity is high enough to provide a +2 bonus but on my character sheet the bonus is in red and is 1. Is this a side effect from being deaseased? because I noticed it shortly after being cured.

Maybe you armor is to heavy?

I think fighters are boring in this game. You should get into a prestige class as soon as possible to get a few new abilities.

    1) The red dexterity bonus probably means you are wearing plate mail which restricts the AC bonus from Dexterity to being 1

    2) As for multiclassing, the world is your oyster depending on what sort of character you want and whether you have the expansion packs installed (which give you access to Prestige Classes). There are plenty of great multiclasses for a fighter character:
Barbarian - to get more hit points, uncanny dodge, rage etc
Bard - to get song and lore
Rogue - to get evasion, sneak attack, and skills
Cleric / Druid / Wizard / Sorcerer - for buffs
    Paladin - for divine grace
Monk - for cleave and other bonuses

Plus, multiclassing gives you access to some special class only items.

Thanks...I think your right about the armour thing.

I forgot to mention I don't have the expansions, but I want them! I concede your point Fabius that Fighters are boring, so I might go Fighter/Barbarian.

Would there be a prime moment to do this? I'm level 4 and 200xp off level 5 should I start ASAP or wait a while?

Fighters don't have to be boring. You'll get all those bonus combat feats, such as called shot, improved knockdown, blind fight.

You could dual wield katanas, in which case I'd recommend taking ambidexterity, 2-weapon fighting and improved two weapon fighting. All those bonus combat feats fighters get makes this option the most logical. Dual katanas would be a very powerful character and plenty fun if you ask me without the need to multiclass.

No way are fighters boring in 3e games like NWN. They are boring in BGII but in NWN they get so many feats that you can customise your fighter to be any sort of warrior you want.

The problem with standard NWN is that there are not enough feats. You run out of useful ones on the high levels.

Bonuses are listed in class descriptions on the creation screen or when you level up and select your class, so... ;)

Weaponmaster is good for fighters as a prestige class and so is Champion of Torm, especially if your fighter's intelligence (WM) or charisma (CoT) doesn't happen to suck for some reason. :p

From my time playing NWN I have come to the conclusion that nearly any character can benefit from taking a few levels of rogue. Even if you're not dex based, the extra skill points, handy class feats and bonus damage of flanking attacks adds flavour and versatility to just about anyone. Even if you're worried about roleplaying, there are no alignment restrictions for rogues in this game and the class can mean any number of things. Of course many rogues are assassins and thieves, but for me rogue levels represent street smarts and skills gained through surviving in a tough urban environment with one's wits. For example, I'm thinking of starting a paladin/rogue character and playing him as an investigator and inquisitor.

So, rogue is a great mix in class and meshes well with some of the prestige classes mentioned above if you were gunning for a third class.

Yeah, I agree that a few Fighter and/or Rogue levels can benefit just about any class.

Fighters are my favorite class. Basically it gets boring sitting back and casting. I like getting into the thick of it, using power attak on this guy, switching to knockdown on this guy, expertise if I'm getting low on hp, etc. etc. Likewise I love being able to boost my one weapon up or take feats for many weapons!

Honestly when you're a fighter and you're, "running out" of feats to take. You're just bein' stubborn. If you're a 2handed fighter, get great axe prof and spec and focus. It's fun to switch between sword and axe, especially since the axe crits for way more, (even though far less times. The numbers all work out the same in the end, but it's nice to see those higher damage rolls when you crit). If you're a 2handed fighter, go with katana/battle-axe. You'd be lookin' darned SEXY or go for something interesting like War Hammer/Battle-Axe!!! Don't mess with a guy weilding a hammer the size of your body and an axe with a blade longer than your skull!!!!

Multi-classing into barb isn't a bad idea, because rage is awesome. So is uncanny dodge, but it's not all that important, (maybe uncanny dodge - cannot be flanked). Rogue is not all that good for a fighter because sneak attack doesn't go off enough when you're the main tank and skills don't matter when all you really need is heal/discipline :) . Paladin might help, but if you go paladin you can't take barb, and barb is far better. No reason to go caster for buffs, because your caster level is too low and they will not last very long. Some might last for a single battle. Bard. I hate bard. The only bard I like is Deekin. And that's only because I like to laugh AT him. Not with him. Not because of a joke. But because he is so pathetic.

So there. I believ ethat barb 1, ranger 1, fighter the rest is the best way to go if you wanna power game, otherwise barb3-5/fighter rest. Ranger 1 btw, gives you ambi-dex & 2weapon fighting as long as you wear light or medium armor. Barb gives you move speed 40 instead of 30 under the same restriction. So having a dex of 14 is useful while wearing medium armors, and you don't have to spend time getting those fighting feats, and rather boosting up your weapons, (focus/proficiency/specialization/power attack/knockdown/imp knockdown/cleave/great cleave/etc).

    There. My two cents.

I'm pretty sure the ranger dual wielding feats only work if you're wearing light armour, not medium, so you'd want a higher dex if you went for barb 1/ranger 1/fighter x, thus taking some out of strength or constitution. Personally, I'd just leave out the ranger level and go for even more in fighter or barbarian, possibly heading for a prestige class as the third.

There's nothing stopping you from taking 4 multi's. At least I don't think so. Nothing wrong with light armor and lower str, (bcause you're making it up with feats, which will in the end give you back the damage, while also giving you a real coolness factor of being a badass).

Other then the fact that in NWN you can't have more than 3 classes.

Agreed, when you're playing a fighter and using one weapon type, you really do not need many fighter levels. Sure, having imp. Disarm as well as imp. Knockdown is cool, but with a katana, your disarm attempts wont be that effective and imp. Knockdown is not as useful as it once was - it's not giving +4 to knockdown attempt anymore, so more often than not, people dont bother taking it anymore, they just stick with normal knockdown.

I suggest you take a look at your wisdom score and decide whether it's high enough for some divine caster levels (druid/cleric), though it is pretty doubtful for a fighter to have high enough wisdom (around 14).

Obviously, you have 14 or 15 dexterity. 14 is more likely, so you might want to add another point at lvl8 into dexterity. Then take TWF and ambidexterity (lvl9 ITWF as well) and dual-wield katanas. Your BAB is high enough to reduce the -4/-4 attack penalty and you'll gain two additional attacks, which well make up for it.

Take a look at the feats you already have and consider that you need three feats more until level 10. Provided you already took WF: katana and Weapon Specialisation: katana, you have two options. Either you go with fighter4/barbarianX and gain ITWF at lvl12, or fighter6/barbarianX and have all the dual-wielding goodies by lvl9. If you go this way, though, you have to remember your dexterity will only be high enough to take Ambidexterity after lvl8, and your BAB will be high enough to take ITWF at lvl9 and on. So you'd have to take 6th fighter level at clvl 8 or 9.

It's a pretty good build, but if you do get access to Weapon Master (and dex&int 13+) you shouldnt hesitate and go for those 7 levels of it. Way cool benefits ;)
