If your father has cut off your internet access, then how are you posting this?

Oh, wait, you're at a friend's house or something, and this friend has internet access.

So you can go on the internet at your friend's house (or whereever). I don't see what you have to complain about. Besides, parents usually have a good justification for doing things.

[IMG] My mother understands my need for the internet and computers, however unhealthy she deems it to be. But I actualyl NEED computers to survive

If my dad tried to cut off my internet I'd beat the iblith outta him, I mean, he has no right. In fact, when he calls next I'm going to shout his brains out :flaming:

Judging by the emotions around the matter and the manner of speaking about one's own parents when computers intrude, the parents have not so bad reasons sometimes.

I don't mean to be Mr. Negativity here but if they pay the bill don't they have every right to cancel it at their discretion?

Not to add onto the negativity here, but he probably had a good reason for doing it. Though I am willing to bet that no matter what his reasons are, you'll think they aren't good ones. But then again, when I was living at home, I thought my parents were unfair most of the time. I never thought the punishments fit. But I look back on things and I have a completely different perspective. And I pretty much feel that everything they did as parents were justified. I'm now seeing the lessons they were teaching me at the time and I am grateful for what they did. I'm thinking a lot of the older posters here, especially ones with a spouse and/or family and a place of their own would agree with me.
If I were you, I'd be grateful your parents care enough to cancel your internet. They could be like some parents who don't give a flip and let you go off and do whatever you want no matter how destructive what you do might be.

Well, here's a real-life story to warn you off from doing so. Once there was a little gitrl whose entire life was lived in books and computers. Then, her mother cut off her internet access. She got royally pissed off and became very, very *****y... a real monster. She beat uop her mother, trying to convince her to give her back the computer games and the internet access she no longer had. The result? the little girl was committed to a psych ward. She stayed there for several months, before being carted off to a social serices' institution, and on this day, she is still in one institution or another, having been so for the last three years.

Yeah, that little girl is me. I recommend you to think at least twice do you want to screw up your life.

    @Kovalis Darkfire,

You want us to tell you if you should beat your father for cancelling your internet. Maybe you should tell us why he did it... or better yet, what you did to deserve it.

My internet is currently off because of my dad, I recognize that he has perfect justification for what he did but that doese'nt mean I have to like it.

Arabwel, all of my love and hugs to you.

For what am I concerned, my parents did a good job with me, but they are HUMANS, they make mistakes like everybody else; for example, I'll never forgive them physical punishments, even if it was only once in a while.

Hey, why is this board filled with "hugsies" and "love?"

Couldn't survive without Internet, but that might be because I have some iCourses going on. As to the question, consider this first:

-How much you weight? And how much your father weights? Compare them.

-Is there a risk that your *mother* will beat the hell out of you afterwards? :hippy:

-If you beat him, could you live with a knowledge that your father is a wimp?

-Is there a chance that he might redeem and re-new the connection? :p

Actually the only way that seems reasonable is to talk it over once again. However, you need to tone down your emotions. Hurling inults at people even if doesn't drive them mad practically guarantees that they won't do what you want from them as a rule even if they would otherwise, especially if the potty mouth belongs to their own children, heh.

Another thing is that your dad's reasons might be important. Most probably it's either too high bills or addiction problems. You should seriously check if you're not addicted if you thinking about beating your own father, let alone how you speak about him.

Well, I'll be a little more personal: I know from my own experience how it's annoying when someone disturbs your work, play or whatever on the computer. I get mad when the phone rings and I'm alone in the house with my PC or when someone calls me, you know... But I always try not to be too *****y for the family and calm down before shouting back ;) When your mind is completely occupied by some activity, like for example a game or interesting site, there's not much place left for anything else due to maximal concentration. Your mind reacts with anger to any signal from outside world that spoils your concentration and dismisses practically all matters as irrelevant and unimportant. Later on, when you're finally finsihed with the game or work, things come back to normality and you're no longer obsessed with what you were doing. Sometimes you wouldn't believe if someone told you about your reactions, your vocabulary etc up to the moment. Or even what opportunities you missed when you were mind-controlled ;)

Eventually you may even thank your dad one day... Believe me, you don't want to shiver like from Parkinson when electricity goes off or Windoze hangs up again, you don't want to be unable to sleep if you don't get your daily radiation, you don't want to have no other life than the damned computer, no other friends than fellow posters or Game Zone / Battlenet people and no other social life than chatrooms. Ah, and for some PC addicts hard-core porn or cyber serves as girl-friend / boy-friend substitute. At that stage it's not even human but some wreck, animal, plant even. With no soul and no brain but the machine. If your dad has seen this picture, no wonder he's tightening the cord. Even if he's exaggerating a bit.

[IMG] I just generally am bitter towards my father, for reasons no-one need know. But if my mother cut off the internet it would be for the wrong reasons:

    1) She thinks I go on bad websites.
    2) She thinks I have computer knowledge of a two year old.
    3) She doesn't trust me because of my disabilities.
    4) Ever since we got a name for my disability she's treated me like I'm delicate and stupid, as if I'll hurt myelf or destroy something.

What is *fun* almost never walks hand in hand with what is *useful*. Especially so in the case of children. Morals and true ability of reason and judgement comes to a person around the age of 20, IMO. The sad fact is that what you see is you, you alone, and just you. You fail to see that the way your parents see it is the realistic cruel and very real way of how you're about to screw up your studies, social life, and your future career and entire life in the process. Naturally parents make mistakes at times, but in the case of normal parents, this happens far less often than you as a child (or youngling, if you'd prefer) would believe.

I don't know the specifics with any of your families. But I'm sure that if you spent your time in the net just for fun and it wouldn't intrude with the importat aspects of your life too much, there'd be no reason (other than the economical one, which sounds quite unlikely) to cancel the internet.

Certainly I love the fact that I've been a grown-up for quite some time. The virtual freedom to do just about whatever I want. But each and every day I see problematic "adults" who obviously weren't taught as children that there are some priorities greater than your own personal satisfaction, or "fun". I don't know how much of what I said has even anything to do with the subject, but you can understand it the way you want to.

Soon enough you'll see that the times of childishness and naivete will be over far too soon. And you'll be damn greatful for when you got punished by your parents. Punishing, afterall, is the only way to get someone learn who still hasn't developed a higher sense of inner morals and ethics. My only regret is that my parents made me too compassionate instead of making me a selfish bastard, which is obviously the type that find success in the world today.

I need some disconnection myself. Acutally, I should write on Word, but I write on the net much to much. That is not good. That is not good. And deadline draws nearer and nearer.
