Once again I'm assisting my mother with technology and stumped by something.
She wants a new, larger monitor to use on the desk she originally bought for my Apple IIGS that was originally the family computer. It has a hutch with two 21.5"x19" openings with shelves that can be adjusted on the sides or totally removed. Currently there's a 17" monitor on the desk.
The problem is that if I look at 21" monitors online that measures the screen size, not the actual size of the entire unit.

Any suggestions on how to get the biggest monitor that will fit in the opening when most sites only list the screen size on their web page?

She has a bad knee and doesn't want to chase around from store to store with measuring tape.

Where are you looking? Both Amazon and Newegg show overall dimensions (HxWxL) often with and without the stand if you look at the detailed specifications. Look for a PDF with specifications also.

I was looking at local chains (because I don't know of any non-chain stores that sell computers stores left in the area of Arlington Heights, IL even with Schaumburg a stone's throw away) so I could use ship-to-store aka store pickup and save on shipping costs.
I was also thinking about the cost of shipping CRTs :bang:, and just realized modern monitors weigh a lot less than my old 17" 40lb CRT (NOT the monitor mom's using) and thus cost less to ship.

Ah, well if your local chains don't provide the information in the detailed specifications, you can always just look them up at a place like Amazon or Newegg and buy it at your local place.
