Shooting in the building next to me

Discussion in 'Whatnots' started by DragonSlayer21, May 29, 2001.

  1. [IMG] Like 30 minutes ago people I knew and grew up with got shot in a building right next to me. I mean this is Norway the quiet little country and the place I live at is even more quiet...

I think they should change the laws in this country so that crimes like rape and violence get harder punishment. The way it is now they won't get more than 20 yrs and will probably not be in prison for more than 10. SICK!!

Just had to get that off my chest..

[IMG] Very sorry to hear that! Fatal? Hope not, but fear so by the sound of your post.

I 100% agree that 10 years behind bars is not appropriate for murder whichever way you look at it.

The difficulty with sentences is that they really are no deterrent in respect of murder. Case in point: there is no evidence that the death sentence is a deterrent.

DragonSlayer, I'm sorry. The life is cruel.
However, my piont of view is that possesion of weapons has to be put outside the human rights and it should be taken as criminal act (unless there is a REALLY good reason to have it). The freedom that allows anyone to carry weapons means non-freedom for others to live freely and safely.
Anyway, I can't change it. How many more victims will be so someone on position will get my point?

  4. Last thing I heard it was not fatal, he is still alive, but as he was shot in the back it may still be fatal...

The thing about norwegian prisons is that the cells are like a very small appartment. You've got your cable and you even get to go out from time to time, depending on how you behave. There was even a case on the news the other day about prisoners just going over the fence to go buy beer and some pot... That's a prison even I could stay in

    Welcome to Hotel Scandinavia!

    Isn't guns forbidden in Norway?

Well, the longest punishment anyone can achieve here in Denmark is something like 16 years. But people are usually let out after 12.....

[IMG] It's a sick, sad world.

The thing is; in Norway it seems that it's far more important to understand that "the criminals are victims too", than it is to actually punish them. (And caring for the actual victims of their crimes is apparently out of the question...)

(Our laws when it comes to taking people into custody are, however, rather questionable "human rights"-wise)

  7. Yes guns are forbidden in norway, but that doesn't mean you can't get them.

You're right Seric Exz, that's exactly what the norwegian legal system is about, and it is ok with teen crime and such. But when it comes to violence there should be no excuse. They need to teach people in Norway this..

If every jew in europe had a decent bolt action rifle over the mantle would the holocaust have happened?
Look at how valiantly they fought in the warsaw uprising with nothing but homemade weapons.
Handguns are another issue. In america, where we have 200 million guns for 270 million people, 98% of gun crimes are commited with handguns. The freaks with assualt rifles make the news in other countries, but that's really where our insane homicide stastics come from. theres just no legitimate reason to have one.
When those "traitors to the king" :) wrote our constitution, they never envisioned a concealable(sp) weapon that could fire 19 rounds.
More than a few people have gone nuts with an axe and butchered there entire family. Whats a weapon?
I hope your neighbor is ok
