[IMG] Well after killing the shadow lord (what a wimp) I tried to attack the shadow dragon. Unfortunately I used up most of my best defensive magic spells in the shadow lord battle, not realizing it would be so easy.
so the dragon, I summon a beserker, I summoned monsters, I cast haste, and chant or prayer or bless whatever it is, protection from evil on minsc. We all attacked. the dragon downed the berserker I had summoned in one spell, then took out the monsters I summoned then confused a couple of the party then killed Minsc in a couple of blows. all this happen in like two seconds, the dragon took no damge. So I restarted and just left. So I assume I can go back for him, and is it worth it, is there some huge treasure I get if I mangage to kill the beast? (any hints on actually doing that would be appreciated as well) Thanks in advance for any response.

[IMG] When you kill him you get a Shadow Dragon scale (used to forge Shadow Dragon armor), a bunch of gems, and a scroll with instructions on how to forge the Crom Faeyr.
I suggest you wait until you kill Firkraag as he gives you some nice kit for defeating stronger dragons.

Shadow is definately more powerful than Firkraag. Its death spells alone can doom your party.Firkraag is easy when you are fire protected. But I agree kill res first take the carsomyr than slay the shadow.it gives the best armor of thieves and a scroll needed to build the mighty Crom Faeyr.

Well in my opinion the Shadow Dragon was MUCH harder than the Red. That level drain breath and spells were really nasty and the wing buffets seemed to hit me more. The red was actually a real piece of cake.

The ShadDrac is DEF worth killing, good eq and 48K exp, 4 of my party made level break from that fight and Viconia in ShadDrac Scale Armour is SWEET.

Haste all, position all around (to lesson the people caught in each breath) and then pound away. Count to 5. Then get your main Mage to cast Pierce Magic or similar and with protections removed she should go down pretty quickly...the thud when a Dragon dies/collapses is VERY cool!!!

    Hope that helps....works for me.

You guys found the Shadow dragon harder than the red?!?! The red has better spells, better A.C. and more hit points. How could he be easier!?!?

I agree that the Shadow dragon was tougher. It took me many, many tries to kill the him. When I finally did that, I rested in Umar Hills and went straight to Firkraag. He went down on my first attempt. I couldn't believe it.

I have to agree with IronEagle, Doomlord and Beorn. The shadow Dragon is much more difficult to beat than the Red Dragon. However, neither really posed a problem to my party. Just set as many traps as you have and summon as many beasties as you can and of course protect yourselves against fire and have at them! They both went down on first try. Although, as anybody who knows anything about how powerful dragons really are (in fantasy) this would not normally work either.

Well I finally killed it. I lost count of how many times I reloaded (I hate losing characters). I made sure to send summoned creatures at him from every direction and not at the same time so one wing beat wouldn't get everyone. I used a couple of lower resistance spells, missle weapons, Minsc, and aerie and myself using all our magic missles. I think the magice missles are what finally did him in. I'm still in chapter two and don't know anything about other dragons, but that was my toughest fight so far.

[IMG] You can beat all the dragons without a single scratch. At low level, memorize cloudkill, magic missles and wizard eye (why, because it can take lots of hit and is many times better than monster summoning as far as distraction strategy is concerned). First step, cast all yr cloudkill spells while you are out the dragon sight. I think you need at least 5-6 of them to even get close to killing it. Wait till the cloud subside and if that does work, cast wizard eye and let the dragon focus its attack on the eye (warning, dragon can sometimes dispel the eye). Then cast magic missles at will. It should fall depending how much damage yr cloudkill has done earlier. At higher level, you can use Incendiary Clouds. This will be a quick battle. Happy hunting!!

    My battle-

i summon a air elemental, a fire elemental, an earth elemental, and 2 aerial servants (level 6 preist spell, powerful). i sent the fire air elemental in because he sucked and the dragon wasted his only death spell on him. then i circled him with my monk and all the elems. sent valygar behind him to ready a backstab.
i had edwin cast lower resistance. then he and jan shot flame arrow after flame arrow at him, then magic missles. valygar backstabbed him for about 20 damage. anomen flame strikes him for about 60 damage. my monk quivering palms him, doesnt work, dont care, keep on pummeling my fists. anomen casts righteous magic on him and runs in, clubbing away.
meanwhile my characters are getting blown all over the place, level drained, confused...
aireal servant hits for 52 damage
    shadow dragon:death

    get valygar that armor, wooooo...

[IMG] Elverath, your Aerial Servant hit him for 52!! damage???Man, I thought it was just another weak summoning spell.Never in my game any of my chars. was able to score such a hit.(even my prota. with Crom could score 40 with critical)...BTW here's how I killed the beast:I summoned the pit fiend, while they were fighting blessed the party then chanted and finally cast defensive harmony and attacked in the name of the Helm(prota.=priest of Helm).Aerie sneaked and lowered res. then began casting holy smite over and over.Keldorn with Carsomyr helped a lot dealing about 60 dam at total while Minsc was taking the hits -and drinking potions like there is no tomorrow :) -
