I've got gaming issues. ADD = Attention Deficit Disorder not Advanced D&D.

So I've started BG1 at least 5 times over the years. Last year I got 1/2 way through and quit because the 640x480 resolution was pissing me off.

Now I've got BG1TuTu installed and I've restarted at 1024x768. Save games from the old session wouldnt take - not that I thought they would. Its so nice to be back to this game again - I didnt realize how much I missed it! The players are a bit small but it sure looks great. The only glitch I've noticed is that my 2 handed sword vanished out of my hand and inventory during a fight last night. That was strange. 67 GP later I had a new one. I've gotta watch out for that - very odd...

I've also got an abandoned session of Icewind Dale on the same laptop. I've commited myself to finishing both before starting BG2 and IWD2. So much gaming! Pool of Radiance 2, also on the laptop, has once again been sidelined - in the Drow catacombs. I won't lie - it will be sidelined for a good 6 months if not a year. It was last time LOL.

Concurrently to BG1 I'm playing NWN multiplayer with my brother and a Single Player campaign with a Ranger character.

I also ordered Arcandum and I've started Dungeon Lords. DL is being dropped with no regret. Adios DL. What a POS - but that's a different issue. I bought Dungeon Siege II which I've installed but I havent started it. I've also stranded Morrowind. I installed Ultima Lazurus 5 - that looks promising. I finished Gothic 2 and Temple of Elemental Evil though. Both fantastic games in my opinion. I bought Gothic 1 on ebay for $50. Havent started it but it is installed.

    So.... sorry for the rambling...
Anyone else have massive ADD Gaming disorder???

In the last 2 months I have bounced from BG1 to IWD to BG2, back to IWD then back to BG2.

Not that there is anything wrong with that.

Hmm, could it be the iron crisis? I don't know what Tutu does with broken weapons, but they did break and you ended up with a hunk of junk in your weapon slot. I don't know how to explain its disappearence from your inventory.

I usually play a few different parties at once to keep my focus on a single game. It doesn't always work, though. I got heavily back into Dungeon Keeper 2 for a couple days, but the writing I'm doing for one of my parties has pulled me back.

Sometimes you just feel like playing a different kind of game, and there's nothing wrong with that. I play RPGs, strategy, sports (mostly football), FPS, and even the occasional action, puzzle, flight (StarFox type of flight), or racing game if I'm in the mood. If you play a game even if you're not in the mood for that type of play, it won't be as fun. And if the point of games isn't to have fun, I don't know what is. :)

Right now I jump around in my games. CRPG and CB. I need to upgrade my 'pewter but was advised to wait because there is a CB game coming in the fall and I don't know the recommended specs yet.

Once I get a new game if I really like it I'll play it through once. May take a break then to something else and back to it.

Lump of iron eh? I'll have to check my inventory again. I scrolled through the text history and couldnt find anything. My quick slot lost the sword too of course. Wierd.

Does everyone here play BG1TuTu? Once I realized I could use the original music I was all set. The BG2 music is lacking in comparison.

If you didn't clear the Nashkel Mines, your sword broke because it was made of tainted metal.

Fortunately, in BG1, all swords except shortsword share the same proficiency (I'm not sure if this stays the same in tutu). You should be able to get a magic sword that won't break pretty quickly, and there's a magic two hander you can get shortly after the mines.

You might want to consider getting a good walkthrough like Dan Simpson's FAQ. Not because you want to spoil things for yourself, but it makes it easier to keep track of which quests you've done, and which you haven't done yet, and where you'd like to go next.

    Hey Todd -

I'm back to BG, too although I finished RoMD (and yes it was for fun, not for masochistic tendencies)....

I'm missing the speed utility though. Is there one for BG? The load and save times, as well as the movement and scrolling rates are terribly tediously slow. This game is old enough that my 2 GHz Pentium Win 2K machine should be able to blast through it. What gives? Is there a way to speed it up? The slow plodding game play is what made me stop playing it before ....

There shound be a configs file where you can edit the framerate-limiter. Just set it to 60 of something.

The scroolspeed s adjustable ingame i the options menu.

    Thanks Seff! I'll try that.

Is there a way to speed up the interminable load and save times?

    Thanks!

A full custom install should take care of that. Make sure you've got enough room, then ignore the installer when it says you don't and tell it to install anyway.

    Felinoid -

I did that and it still takes almost a minute to load.

Please, does someone have any other ideas on getting this aged and creaky beauty to run at modern speeds? Does it run faster in Win 98 compatibility mode?

    Thanks!

Weapons break in Tutu, as in BG1, until you have cleared out the Nashkel mines.

The game will probably not run any faster on Win 98 compatability mode. You could try disabling some of the graphics options if it runs slowly, but otherwise there is probably little you can do aside from upgrading your computer.

Really? One would think this old game would run fast on a 2.2GHZ Pentium.

But the load and save times are interminable.

Changing the framerate from 30 to 60 in the config file made the movement rates decent. It's the loading and saving that is slow. The files aren't that big. What gives?

I certainly can't tell you. With a full install it should take five seconds at most. You might be better off asking in the Techno-Magic forum. :bad:

Light bulb turns on ..... Does this have something to do with running in multiplayer mode as a single player?

Wait, do you mean you're playing Multiplayer with only one character, or playing single-player with more than one MP-created character? If it's the former, then yeah, that might be it. Multi-player has to sync up with the other machines involved, and even if there aren't any, the coding for it takes a bit of time. That's one of the reasons that when I do any MP parties, I always switch them to single as soon as I can.

I'm playing 6 characters in multiplayer mode all by myself. Since there aren't any other users (I think I used an unmapped serial port option for the connection) it shouldn't search, but who knows? Should it take a minute or more to load and 30 seconds to save? Saving shouldn't search for other machines?

But I prefer being able to mod inventories while paused during battles. So I guess I'll live with it...... Unless there are other multiplayer options that load and save faster.....

That would probably be more of a pausing sync; you don't want the game to continue without you (and possibly get you killed from lack of control) while you're saving, do you?
Actually, if you've got Tutu that's already been taken care of. BG2 and Tutu (which uses the BG2 engine) automatically pause whenever you go into the inventory screen, even in single-player. In case you've no other objections, I'll tell you how to shift your save from MP to single:

    Find your save folder (it's actually an entire folder) inside of C:bad:...\BGII - SoA\mpsave and cut+paste it to BGII - SoA\save. . . . What? We're done. :D

Here's a question - how many saved game slots do you have? If you have too many 15+, it can slow down the saving and loading times.
