This game is MMO but it isn't a D&D game so I chose this forum to post it in.

Has anyone tried it? I opened a free account the other day and I've wandered around a bit but I haven't actually done much. It seems interesting because of its extreme diversity but I don't know how long I'll be interested in it. I'd like to know what some other people think about it.

Well, I tried it, didn't like it. It lags really much, no matter what. I tested it on a computer that could run, say, Half-Life 2 with maximum graphics, and it still lagged.

Also, it's quite creepy at times. Some people really live it like their own life, and get angry if you speak about Real Life in there.
The creation system where you could do virtually anything was nice for a while, but got tired quickly.

All in all, not great, decent for a little while.

Great if you're willing to learn how to script, and avoid the casinos. Otherwise, if you actually want to buy something, you'll probably have to invest some real money. Making new objects is where the fun is.

Second Life is fantastic on paper. The community there has more or less ruined it, IMO.

Well I've been playing it about a week now and I kind of like it. I think that its only fun because one of my friends joined and then she invited another mutual friend of ours who I haven't seen in a long time.

I also like exploring the world - I've taken a lot of nice ingame snapshots.

Well, I think that calling SL a MMORPG isn't that far off, so I'm moving this thread to DNR.

Is there 'combat'? Can you become a soldier and fight in wars? Any such thing as experience? How do you make money?

It's easier to make money if you're female, you can get a job as a waitress or an exotic dancer, for instance. Females also get money by offering their....errr...services to gents for a certain amount of cash. My brother is playing SL for quite some time now, and according to him he gets offers from females to have sex with his avatar on a daily basis, they usually charge 2000 or some such. Gay dudes tried the same with him btw. :shake:

If you decide to upgrade your account, which of course costs you an amount of real life money, you can get a starting sum of 1000, and a weekly salary of 300, along with a piece of private property on which you can build a house and/or a store or some other form of business, and that's when the big bucks start rolling in. Wheter you want to pay some real money for that is completely optional of course. You can just as well keep wandering around and watch what's going on around you, which can be interesting enough.

I myself created an account just yesterday, but when i was browsing through what cloting options were available for my avatar, the site's server crashed, and that's when i said "well, screw you then" and went straight back to Jade Empire. :D

I haven't come across combat there yet but I'm sure its possible considering the variety of scripts that are available and being created all the time. I am enjoying the variety this world has to offer. I wouldn't exactly call it a game - I think it is a giant visual chatroom with extras thrown in.

Yep, that's the best description of SL, a chatroom, with every nasty detail you may know from the original chatrooms included. :shake:
