Does any one know of a web page that talks about scripting in a way that you can understand? Like really simple ways to put scripts together. Any ideas or anything.

If you know the C programming language, you should have no problem understanding the NWN scripts, and you can just look at various examples to understand the quirks of NWN.

If you don't, I would suggest learning it (there are hundreds of books on C) if you want to do anything complicated with scripts.

Actually NWN scripting is draws alot from Java programming and the concepts of object orient programming style. I recommend the nwn lexicon found at HERE

[IMG] To say that NWN script even remotely uses the concepts of object oriented programming is a stretch. About the only thing it has is a data type called object which is more like a struct than anything else object oriented.

BT why is NWN not object oriented design? The whole toolest reeks of it, everything from the classes, the object style of scripting. Please tell me why it is structured designed language.

Ohh and don't tell me because it cannot creat a gui like vb, vb is an structred design language that promotes the use of event driven commands.

The NWN toolset is in a way object oriented. The objects have scripts associated with them at least, and the objects are associated with handles.

The NWN scripting language is not. The language is very structured. You have data types and you have separated functions that act upon them. There are no classes in the scripting language. There is no way to associate the methods with the objects other than through the toolset.

I can understnad your point BT but it has some traits of object programming

now when i look at the scripter i see the skeleton oultines of object programming

    1. we have a away to find every object in the scripter from the game by asking for its name

    2. we can change things it knows ie, state, attributes, and contents

    3. we tell it to do methods ie, actionforcemove
    actiongiveitem

    4. they have problems still variables and strings
    are not objects

i see that they have taken some of the concepts of object programming and melded it with structured design to create a beast that does not know what it is.

Maybe I am just looking at the whole package and you are looking at just the scripter
