[IMG] I have been struggling with a new character that I can really get into role playing. Most of them are hard to fit into the SoA story, except a straight mage or figther, so I am essentially ignoring my Bhaal childhood for a moment and creating my own background. I would appreciate your comments on whether it is valid or just an excuse to be able to cast in armor.

Faulkner, my soon-to-be-created Druid will start out his adventure having recently been kidnapped from his shoreline glen on the Coast. Just before falling into unconsciouness at the hand of the unkown Jon Irenicus, he last memory (forgotten when he woke) was of his precious glen going up in smoke. Animals were fleeing and dying and the trees everywhere were burining to the ground.

When he awakes in a strange dungeon, his thoughts are jumbled. He does not recall how he came to be here, but he does recall fire...fire aroung him, and later, fire in him as he was tortured. While deep inside he knows he has an affinity for nature and animals, the fire has created a hatred in him that must be fed with the blood of others. He does not know who or what did this to him, but he will find out. In the meantime, he needs to find a weapon...

That is the short background I am planning to use to DC my character to fighter...ie. he was a peaceful druid learing to live in this world that now is seeking an unknown revenge upon those who took away his peaceful glen.

Is that sufficient rp backgroud to justify the dual class? By the way, although I am sure there are many posts on it, I wouldn't mind hearing your input on when to dual him...roleplaying wise it would seem justifiable anywhere from 9 to 12.

    Thanks.

[IMG] My advice: Dual at Druid-11.

You get a 6th level spell.
Need only 200,000 xp, next level is at 300,000 xp.
You can reach max level as Fighter (19), not that that is all that important, level 18 is good enough.

An alternative is to dual at Druid-12, since it only costs you another 100,000 xp, but that also means you have to wait for another 250,000 xp to reactivate you druid class.

    Why wouldn't it be?

    1. It's YOUR game. You decide what is enough justification.

    2. My real-world experience has provided me with some four different careers of approximately 8 years each (yeah, I really AM that old). So, if it can happen in the real world, why not in the fantasy genre?

    3. Bilbo had no plans on becoming a Thief, yet I think even Tolkein might consider him one through dint of experience by the end of the book, The Hobbit.

    4. Sam Gamgee had absotlutely no intention of doing anything more than serving as Frodo's "hey boy" and friend when they left the Shire. But, by the end of The Trilogy, even Tolkein wrote that Sam was recognized as a Warrior of some skill by most in the Shire. What greater authority can you name than Tolkein himself?

[IMG] If you're really bent on role-playing then you can "justify" almost anything; I dont know why people worry so much about it. Candlekeep was a centre for learning respected throughout Faerun and beyond, giving you almost limitless scope for creativity. Kensais, for example, could be trained by a visiting elderly samurai from Kara-Tur on a search for knowledge and enlightenment in his final years, or a priest of Talos could be the result of an immature character still rebelling against the stuffy and preachy monks of Oghma as he did in his adolescence. Black Isle have really given you a blank canvas, so use it!

Dual if you must, it is your game...I personally can't stand to dual or multiclass...

Sounds like you've got an Avenger on your hands, frankly.
