I just got an email alert that Gamestop is liquidating a bunch of Guitar Hero and Rock Band game bundles, all versions (except the newest, like Guitar Hero Metallica) and all platforms. I'm thinking of picking one up, and I'm curious as to the preferences around here.

I've always been partial to Guitar Hero (the only series I've played), but I like that Rock Band comes with all the instruments. The song lists seem to be about even. I partly want to get one of these because I think my girl would really get into it, and as much as she likes to play there aren't too many genres she actually likes (party games seem to be her forte, though she's good at Mario Golf on the Gamecube). More than likely I'll get a PS2 version, since I'm a ways off from a PS3 or a Wii.

    Ida know - thoughts anyone?

My friend who is a (or was he is now into "real" guitars) true guitar hero addict much prefered Rock Band over Guitar Hero: World Tour. Said it was better instruments and generally better gameplay.

I haven't played world tour, but I have definitely always enjoyed rock band. It's fun stuff for a group...

The only friend who I've played it with who also plays guitar and drums really likes it as well.

Rock Band 2 is right up there with Planescape: Torment, Deus Ex and Fallout 3 in my "Best Games Ever" list. I'm almost embarrassed to say I've probably spent in the region of £100 on DLC. >_>

I have World Tour as well, but it's just not as good. It has some great songs, but most are just trash that I'd never heard of, and wouldn't want to hear again. It does win points for actually having some ska in the setlist though.

But Rock Band has the better overall setlist, the better downloadable content (it has Still Alive from Portal! :D For FREE! \(^o^)/ ), and arguably the better interface. Plus, with RB2 you can buy a used copy of RB, import almost all of the songs to RB2 for a minimal fee (400 points on the Xbox - the cost of 2.5 downloaded songs), and sell it for the same price you bought it for. If you don't mind the devs not getting much money for it...

I thought one of the later Guitar Hero 3 had a drums and a mic.
