supposing i had a reputation of 18 and i was to trade with an evil merchant (eg - drow merchant in ust natha), would i get the same discount as per a good merchant? or would they consider me too heroic and up the pricing?

That is a good question. Well, when I was playing my halfling cavalier I managed to get his chr to 25 (natural-19 + helm of glory, field plate of Balduran, sword of roses, nymph cloak) and my rep was (quite pallylike) 20.
I always got a great discount everywhere, including the underdark. Though I never checked it - I always had the feeling that I could make money by just buying stuff and seeling it back immediately :D

So my guess is: The game is not adaptive on alignment here - even when dealing with an evil dealer you should get your discount. Basically this is strange somehow, since you are undercover, no one knows you - so how the hell should they know about your reputation since you are just the unknown Veldrin from Ust-Natha :D ... this kind of illogical as well ;)

I now have a CHN character and a few evil chars in my party hence I have to watch not to get my alignemten higher than 18. Anyway with this party I got enormous prices for sold goods in Sahuagin city while trading with the priesstess. For example 8000 for a sword for which I could get no more than 3000 on the surface. But that's about the only merchant that appreciated my party :(
