    [IMG] A few questions:

    1)How do these things work?

2)Where can I get one (preferably free)?

    3)Which is best?

4)Can I harm my system with one?

I ask because I'd like to play IWD1, but ran into some problems a while ago. See this thread for details. TIA

I use a program called Registry Mechanic, and I highly recommend it. You have to pay for it though...

Basically, they scan the endless codes for inconsistencies, known values added/changed by malware programs, and they can "Compact" the codes too.

All in all, they are good programs to make your overall system performance faster and more stable. :thumb:

And for question #4, no...generally you can't harm your system by using one of them. They exist to help and improve your system - not harm it. :rolling:

Well, I'll see if I can locate a copy of the one Kitrax reccommends, and I'll try the free one you have as well, CelestialRaven.

My problem is still there after using Abexo Registry cleaner. When I try to uninstall IWD from my computer, I get an error reading:

Unable to locate inatallation log file 'C:bad:Program Files\Black Isle\Icewind Dale\Uninst.isu.' Uninstallation will not continue.

    :(

To question #4 - YES. You can harm your system with a registry cleaner. With some very bad luck, you can break your system to the point where it needs a reformat.

I backed-up my system first. BTW, any suggestions on how to fix my Icewind Dale 1 problem?

Manually uninstall it.... no registry cleaner will help you with missing files. Delete all IWD installation stuff on your hard drive, then all references to it in the registry.
