[IMG] I haven't solo'd BG/TotSC yet - have done it with BG2 - and would like some input from you since I'm planning on soloing BG/TotSC/BG2/ToB with the same character.

These are a few of the things that need to be answered:
    - Can a Fighter (or Ranger) handle it alone.
    - What about lethal traps? Are there any that you absolutely have to go through?

[IMG] Rangers can easily handle the game alone and i would assume fighters can as well (or they wouldn't have made them) .

there are several traps you absolutely have to go through (e.g. Nashkel Mines) although they aren't usually fatal although they can be quite nasty. the best thing to do is just to recruit a thief into your party although this isn't absolutely neccesary.

well in BG2 there are some lethal traps that fire a sort a green thingie (I think it is desintagrate). but you can probably avoid them because they aren't in the most important areas

So you can try a fighter/thief

Traps in BG2 seem to be of less importance, and there aren't just a ton of them like in BG. Magic, however, is plentiful, so I'd think part mage would be very important...if you wanted to mess around with your character once you got imported to BG2, I'd think a swashbuckler D mage would be nice. Maybe a fighter/mage/cleric would work as well.

you could rather take a fighter/mage/thief then, because a cleric is useless if you play alone. OK the healing spells are great, but you can potions instead and you don't have to raise anybody because you're play alone. So, I think a cleric is useless. Swashbuckler D mage can also work though.

[IMG] I would go with Fighter/Thief. You get the raw power that a fighter provides, plus the backstab & thief skills necessary. You'll level-up fairly quick since you're not dividing XP, and your HP will be relatively high. Potions of Healing replace the need for a cleric. And the real bad-asses seem to be resistant to magic anyway.

ive done it before with just a thief but you might want more than backstab, run away, backstab, potion of invisibility, backstab... so i think a F/T would work for you...just give yourself proficincies in a bow and small sword and youll do just fine...

how about this idea: JUST TAKE A PARTY OF 6!!

it's muh easier to play with six character and just as much fun and then you don't have the problem that you lose certain abilities

Don't take a fighter/ranger and a whole party. Do something that makes the game a real challege.

[IMG] I'd take at least two characters instead of soloing...Figher/Thief and a Fighter/Mage.

If you're going to dual class a character, you might want some support character(s) around while you're building up your second class to the point that you can use both classes.

[IMG] I just finished BG2 soloing as a Wizard Slayer in 4-5 days (real time) and on Monday I think I'll start BG1 with a solo character that I will play on through TotSC/BG2/ToB.

    Time for your final suggestions!
Please also suggest how you think his/her development should be in BG2/ToB!

    (One thing: I won't dual him/her until in BG2/ToB.)

[IMG] Start with a human fighter. Dual at 4th level to Mage. That way you get enough HP to survive as a mage, as well as a decent THAC0.

Fighter/Mage is O.K. but I would opt for the Fighter/thief for a solo character. Another option would be to dual-class but with the limited levels achieved in BG, I think a multi-classed character would be best suited.

In BG2 I think there not that cool anymore but maybe yo can go for a paladin? He's a much better fighter then a Fighter/Cleric and has enough healing spells and dispel, also very necessary when playing solo.

You wanna play with shield or with also a range-weapon? Then I would advice a crossbow... and Long-Sword or Two-handed sword.

[IMG] Finally the choice fell on a Ranger with the intent to dual to cleric in BG2.

I've played for one day and have gotten to chapter 5 now. 161,000 xp is reached so all that remains is to finish BG and get started on BG2.

If you plan on soloing only BG and Sword C. i'd suggest a fighter-thief......but if you want to import it in SoA i'd say a plain thief. You must not fight everyone, you can avoid certain killings IMO.
