I am officially tired of spending a fortune on AA and AAA batteries to power everything in my house. However, I know nothing about rechargeable batteries. So I am doing what I always do when I don't know anything, I'm asking the SP crowd. What if anything do I need to know? What do people recommend I buy? Is there a top of the line or are all the products the same?

They give out a little less strong current. some devices can have problems whit that but most will not. make sure that the batteries are depleted before recharging. That keeps them stronger for a longer period of time. Recharging an full or half-ly depleted one makes it less powerfull fast. Charge them in pairs if you use them in pairs. Number them to prevent the batteries from mixing. Some loaders have an option to deplete it first.

I know two types for consumers, the NICA or nickel cadmiun, an older less strong type, and the NILI nickel lithium. For brands I have no idea.

First off, don't get NiCad batteries. These batteries are common in R/C toys. They offer a lot of on-demand power...however they are the type of batteries that have the infamous "memory" that seriously limits the battery life if you do not completely drain the battery before charging.

Ni-MH are what you'll probably find at the local store. These are the most common type of consumer rechargeable batteries. If you can, try to find some that offer 2500mAh or more. The higher the number, the longer they'll last in between charges.

LI-Ion batteries are are also dropping in price, so using them for standard AA applications are starting to appear. IIRC, LI-ion batteries offer more extreme temperature ranges, and can hold more power...however, they're going to cost more.

Personally, I have a Ni-MH Panasonic set that's rated at 1600mAh...which is crap, but they were cheap so I got them anyway...as for top of the line brands, I think Duracell takes the cake since they've been making batteries ever since Columbus sailed the Ocean Blue back in 1492...although, since there wasn't electricity back then, Duracell produced the familiar AA battery as a bullet for rifles...
Seriously though, go with the brands that are known for making batteries like Duracell or Energizer. :rolling:
